Under the Weather & 3.5 Week Update on Owen

At almost a month old Owen is doing wonderfully. He’s actually started hitting some milestones! He started smiling back at me this week and cooing/laughing! There’s nothing like the smile of your own child smiling back at you!

Yesterday Owen was weighed and measured. He weighs 10 1/2 lbs, he’s 21 1/2 inches long, and his head is 15inches. He’s now out of his 0-3 month clothes and fitting into his 3 month clothes rather well! It blows me away on how quickly he’s grown in such a short time! I’m glad though, he’s a very healthy little boy.

Sadly this week Owen has come down with his first cold that he no doubt caught from his big sister. I guess I’ll have to get used to that. Melody was 7 months old when she got her first cold but she didn’t have an older sibling to pass it on to her. I’m sick too came down with the cold the same time as Owen but feeling on the mend. I’m glad I’m nursing because breast milk provides your baby with antibodies, which are important for fighting infection and strengthening baby’s immune system.

What did you do for your baby when they had a cold?

Owen at Two-Weeks Old

Owen had his two week pediatrician visit yesterday and he’s doing fantastic. My mind was set at ease to know his newborn screening test came back clean. They did do the heel prick test for his second Newborn screening test  because I guess they can’t do some test until baby has been eating for a few weeks. I should hear back on those results in the next week or so. I was so proud of my little man for not crying at all during his visit once.

Owen’s weight, height and head circumference was measured to review his growth since birth. He’s weighing in at 8lbs 13oz, height wise he’s 21.5 inches, and his head is 37cm. I’m very happy to see such progress in his growth.  The pediatrician commented on his strength and how observant he is and the size of his not so little feet.

In other news, he’s nursing great! He’s eating about every 2-3 hours and nurses for about 15-30mins. He sleeps through about 3-4 hour stretches at night give or take and we are all adjusting pretty well.
