Our Thoughts…

What a great new collection offered from The Scholastic Storybook Treasures ! I believe it’s best suited  for children ages 4-8 who have a love for or are eager to learn more about music and musicians through educationally fun stories!

This collection is ideal for classroom or home use! It offers 3 DVDs with 15 stories all together totaling 2 hours and 47 minutes of running time. All the stories have the read along features and on the Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin dvd there’s a interview with the art author/illustrator Patrick McDonnell. I always love getting to know more about the person behind the story and it would be great if you were having your child, children, or classroom write a report on the story featured and author.

If you are interested in teaching your child other languages it would please you to know that there are several stories in this collection also translated in Spanish. Scholastic Storybook Treasures fromYoung Artist Collection featuring Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin collection supports and teaches children the importance of creativity, self confidence, art, and appreciation!

I highly recommend this DVD set and it would be perfect to get now to start incorporating into the 2011 school year!

Our Trip to the Oregon History Museum

Owen and Me Posing by the wheel of the USS Oregon (BB-3)

One of the great places we visited this Summer was the Oregon Historical Society Museum. My husband, infant son, and I were able to go on a weekend while our three year old spent the day with her grandparents. We just didn’t think she’d be all the interested like we would…hmm, I take that back. We thought she’d be a little too interested and attempt to touch everything! Who can blame her though, I would love to have been able to pick things up but knew better as historical things need not be handled by numerous goers. And my daughter is total hands on learner too!

I enjoyed getting to learn so much about the state I am currently living in! Did you know most states have a state beverage? I didn’t know that. I learned that the state beverage of Oregon is milk! Apparently Oregon milk is recognized nationwide as the leader in the United States for milk quality!

One of the exhibits that my husband and I really enjoyed was on the USS Oregon (BB-3) which was a pre-Dreadnought Indiana-class battleship of the United States Navy. It was neat to learn all about this ship and stories that went along with it. For example on the ship they had a few pets which included a cat, dog, and a goat of all animals! And seeing all the neat artifacts which included clothes they wore, dishware, and lots of other things was a lot of fun! The museum did a great job putting together this exhibit as well as all the other ones they had. I know without a doubt that when the kids are old enough to understand the importance of learning state history that I’ll bring them back! It will make an awesome home school field trip! I’m so glad I snagged a deal to go to the museum off Groupon for half the price!

Learning Resources | A-B-C Puzzle Blocks {review}

We are gearing up big time over her for preschool now that my daughter has just turned three years old! We are together diving into the world of ABC’s and 123’s and having a blast doing so. I was a bit unsure in the beginning on where to look for the educational products I would need but was recommend to Learning Resources. This company has quickly become one of my favorite stores to purchase educational products from and don’t take just my word for it…they’ve been around for over twenty-five years!

Since my daughter loves puzzles we decided upon selecting  Learning Resources A-B-C Puzzle Blocks for our classroom.  This set is definitely worth investing in! It’s very durable and of high quality. Each of the pieces are shaped and cut leaving no rough edges.

This product is sort of a all in one. And I’m really liking that you can use the A-B-C Puzzle Blocks set in so many ways. This set will help your child to match the fun illustrated pictures with the correct letter, learn words, teach letter pronunciation, spelling, and more!

I like to keep things need and tidy so I’m a fan that this set can easily be put away on a shelf after use. I like that the clear plastic lid ensures that no pieces may escape which tends to happen with most puzzles around here!

My daughter is now three years old but we began using this set when she was two years old. She’s really into this set and gets very excited when she matches the letters with the correct pictures! It’s great to see her developing her early reading and language arts skills so soon. We plan on continuing to use this set for quite sometime and with it’s durability I know it will last long enough to pass down to her brother and possibly another child.

If you are interested in purchasing Learning Resources | A-B-C Puzzle Blocks, you can find it on their website for 29.99. I’m totally thinking about getting the 1-2-3 Puzzle Blocks set too since my daughter favors this set so much!
