Devotions from the Garden: Finding Peace and Rest in Your Busy Life #bookreview

Devotions from the Garden: Finding Peace and Rest in Your Busy Life By Miriam Drennan is a beautiful book. I was drawn right away to this devotional because find great joy and take rest in gardening. Gardening concepts tied to scripture reading can offer one deep reflection upon the path taken in life with God. In fact, one of my favorite parables in the Bible told by Jesus is the parable of the sower also known as the parable of the soil. A garden is where humans first began fellowship with God and in knowing this I feel there’s no better a center than a garden to revolve a devotional book around. Continue reading

The One Year Devotions for Active Boys Review

activeboyThe One Year Devotions for Active Boys is a great choice in getting boys engaged and excited about growing with God. What I like is that this devotional can be started anytime of year! There’s no specific day of the week or year marked just days so there’s no need to feel like you have to start at the beginning. The devotions and activities are applicable to the month each resides in meaning there are seasonal activities and devotions that would be based upon upcoming Holidays and the like.

Each of the devotions always has a section to pray and then a Bible verse to conclude what was just read, in-between there is usually an activity or experiment, word puzzle of some kind, weird fact, or wacky laugh. I would recommend if reading through this devotion with a boy to look ahead so if an activity comes up, you can set some time aside and have material on the ready to get really hands on. It doesn’t apply to everyone but I know sometimes the message is better remembered with an additional activity. I think the authors of this devotional are awesome for taking that into consideration.

The devotions are easy to read, pretty engaging, and quite applicable to boys around the ages of 7-12 years old. I felt that the devotionals weren’t dated in the least and appreciated that the devotions span over many ages. This is a great book to pick up to start that daily habit of spending time with God! Young boys will be learning about how to apply the messages of God’s word and act it out in their own life! I most certainly recommend it!
