Crafty Friday: An Added Bow and Autumn Themed Clips

This week I made a few more alligator hair clips and this go around, I tried my hand at adding a little bow with a crystal embellishment to the top. I have to say it came out a lot better than I expected! And with that being the case, I can’t wait to try to create more!

I’m not quite ready to open an Etsy store yet for my hair accessories because I want to build up a bigger collection first but I am willing to sell a few by word of mouth or by means of my blog. If you are interested in the sets pictured below, feel free to e-mail me and we’ll set something up!

Note that these Autumn themed alligator clips are 1 3/4″ long and are covered quality grosgrain ribbon. The ribbon is treated with heat so there will not be any fraying. These sets include 2 clips for 2.50! You can contact me at ellybean (at) connected2christ dot com, if interested.

Perler Bead Decorations

I love being crafty and just recently have taken up creating with Perler Beads! Since I’m a fan of gaming consoles and old school games like Pac Man, I created these fun pac man perler bead buddies to decorate my nearly ornamentless tree this year!

I can’t wait to make more of my own favorite characters as well as my own self thought up designs! These are so much fun to create (save for the hours I spent sorting beads). You can buy Perler beads not mixed from the perler bead website and I would also recommend checking out e-bay for some great deals.

You can purchase a bucket of Perler beads for around $13.00 at Micheals or any other craft store. The prices of the pegboards you’ll need vary depending on the size. I scored a great deal on peg boards at Ikea for just two dollars for a set of 4!

Perler beads are great for making key chains, coasters, ornaments, stylish magnets and whatever else you can think up! These are a fun craft to do with kids ages four and up as I have some great memories of creating with them when I was a child.

Holiday Gift Guide: A Toy Garden

TOBURN112009A Toy Garden is truly a wonderful place to find all sorts of fantastic gifts for children of all ages! After having my own child, I’ve been pretty picky about the toys and gifts that she receives. I’m a fan of the sort of gifts that I know will be treasured for many years to come, much like the products I found while browsing the vast selection offered at A Toy Garden. A Toy Garden is a family based business that offers only the best! You’ll find that they offer a large amount of fair trade toys, as well as toys made 100% in the USA!

I was blessed with the opportunity to review an exclusive SweetiePie Doll as well as  Make It Yourself Candle Kit perfect for the Holiday season!

My daughter loves the Sweetie Pie Doll that we were sent. We’ve named the doll Faye Faye and she travels almost everywhere with my daughter. I’ve never before seen her take to a doll in such a way. Faye Faye does many things with my daughter  throughout the day, they read books together, Melody feeds her doll pretend foods, the doll travels with us when we go out, and once or twice Melody tried to bathe her in the the bathtub! I would not recommend a bath for this doll. This doll can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth but should never be fully immersed in water.

I love so many things about the Sweetie Pie Doll! I love the weight of this doll and learned specifically that each doll is  filled with 1 pound of millet and wool to make him or her feel like a little real baby. Each of the Sweetie Pie Dolls are 13″ tall of which I think is the perfect size for my daughter. As you can see from the photo, the dolls clothes are made from cotton velour. It has hand sewn facial features, it has bangs, eyes, and a slightly smiling mouth. These dolls are recommended for children ages 1-4. These dolls are very special as they are fully customizable from skin , hair, clothing, and eye color. These dolls are created by a sew-at-home mom from Fresno, USA.

Note that a larger version of the Sweetie Pie Doll is offered for older children called the Sweet Pea doll! This doll weighs 4lbs and is best for older children as they can handle the weight and size better.

IMG_6291 - 2007-07-28 at 16-00-52The Multi-Colored Make It Yourself Candle Kit assembled exclusively by A Toy Garden is a lot of fun! In my mind this candle making kit is the  perfect craft to do together with family and friends during the holiday season!

What this kit includes is 12 8×8 inch sheets  of 100% honeycombed beeswax in 12 different beautiful colors, 4 yards of quality wick, and very easy to follow instructions. Now before I continue on, I thought you should know some facts about Beeswax Candles!

  1. TOBURN1120091Beeswax candles contain none of the harmful chemicals sometimes found in paraffin candles.
  2. Beeswax candles burn significantly longer than paraffin candles.
  3. Beeswax candles burn cleaner than paraffin candles, producing hardly any soot.
  4. Our beeswax taper candles are virtually dripless in normal draft free conditions.
  5. The light emitted by a beeswax candle is much stronger and brighter than that of a paraffin candle.
  6. Beeswax is a renewable resource!
  7. Beeswax candles have a natural aroma and honey scent, no additives needed.
  8. Beeswax candles can be burned around those with allergies or who are sensitive to strong chemical scents.
  9. Natural beeswax candles support our beekeepers; our candles are created out of beeswax made in the USA.

My husband and I are somewhat sensitive to certain scents and many other types of candles can really set off our allergies, so we really appreciate the benefits of beeswax!

My 18 month old daughter and I used this kit together to create such pretty candles! I first prepped the beeswax since it was stored in a cooler place with my blow dryer to make sure it was warm enough to roll. I then cut the wick to the proper size and then let my daughter help me roll each candle out! Since I was working with her, I decided to do the Simple candles but am really look forward to creating multi-colored, tapered, and candles of various heights and thickness! I’m eager to try to make a Christmas Tree styled candle too!

TOBURN1120092I think candles are wonderful gifts and how extra special if the receiver knew you made them yourself! I will most definitely be purchasing this kit again from The Toy Garden especially since I learned that they recommend purchasing their Stockmar Decorating Wax beeswax sheets for thinner pieces of wax to add detailed decorations to the candles. The possibilities are endless and what a fantastic craft to do with children both young and old!

I recommend checking out A Toy Garden! They have a fantastic selection of arts and craft items among the vast selection of toys that encourage imaginative play! As a homeschooler myself, I really appreciate that there is a whole section dedicated to supplies and products geared toward home education.

Free Gift Wrapping with all orders and reasonable priced top quality products! What more could you ask for?

Disclaimer: I was sent a Sweetie Pie Doll and Custom Candle Making Kit for review from The Toy Garden . This review is 100% my opinion and has not been edited or reviewed by anyone. I was not compensated in any other way for this product review.

Etsy-Beyond Quilts Review and Giveaway (CLOSED)

100_1296Quilts are something special. I still own a very special quilt that my Grandmother made me when I was a little girl. I know I probably should put it in a hope chest or something like that but I can’t bare to be without it. I find it amazing that after so many years it hasn’t shown any wear or tear. Quilts if made well have a tendency to last for a long time and can be passed down throughout your family for generations.

I surely wish I knew how to sew and put a quilt together so I could pass them down to my children but being a young busy mom of a 15 month old with lots of other priorities, I just don’t have the time. But there are people out there that do, like Carolyn owner of Beyond Quilts, a store that can be found on Etsy.

3264539883_690c8ee86dCaroyln offers a variety of beautiful quilts, as well as other handcrafted products for people and pets at her store! I enjoyed getting to now Carolyn through my Esty Meet and Greet questions, I am sure you will too.

1.Why did you decide to start doing this on etsy and how long have you been? My daughters encouraged me to open an Esty shop two years ago. They like my stuff and thought more people would be interested in purchasing it.

2. What do you enjoy the most when creating your products? I enjoy working with the different textures, colors and creating cute, useful items. I’ve also made many quilts that I’ve donated to various organizations: Indian Reservations, Crisis Pregnancy Centers, nursing homes, Quilts of Valor – quilts given to soldiers touched by war.

3. Apart from creating things, what do you do? I have taught English as a Second Language classes for adults for 26 years. I also teach Sunday School and play the piano for the morning worship service.

4. What inspires you? I believe God has given me the desire to be creative and help others with the talents He has given me.

5.In five years you’d like to be…? In five years I would like to have a smaller stash of fabric!!! I would also like to continue blessing others in any way that I can.

My100_1279 Thoughts:

I was sent a mini doll quilt and pillow to review. This quilt messures in at approximately 17″ x 20″ and the pillow is 10″ x 10″, which is the perfect size for baby dolls. I knew this quilt doll set would be perfect for my daughter as she is extremely nurturing and loves caring for  her baby dolls (which is all good till she throws her cloth babies in the bath while it’s running…lol).  I believe these would make the perfect gift for any little girl who loves playing with her baby dolls. I honestly couldn’t believe how affordable the complete set was at only $10.00!

100_1287Carolyn’s “I Spy…” children’s quilts are something special. I love the one that I have as it’s the perfect size for  my daughter’s toddler bed! I enjoy the opportunity to point  out on each of the 80 fun patterned quilt squares what we see! It makes for a wonderful learning opportunity for growing minds and fun game of you guessed it, “I Spy” for children.

I can see the care and the quality put into these quilts  making them flawless. I have a good idea that these quilts, much like the one from my grandmother will last for a very long time and be loved by  generations of family to come.
