Science is something that I feel is important to include in our home-school studies. Children need to understand the how and why things work and form their own conclusions in solving problems. Science causes one to observe, form a hypothesis, experiment, and interpret what’s going on. It’s the basic foundation of how we learn about everything!
Up to this point, my children have been learning about the world around them by doing a science project every few weeks and watching like themed videos. I’ve been creating units myself for the kids. My initial goal for the upcoming school year has been to increase these studies. Cementing certain scientific concepts in memorable fun way has always been the goal. However, I’ve been finding myself spending far more time than I imagined getting everything together and have found myself running out of steam! As it so happened, through the Schoolhouse Crew Review team, I was given the opportunity to share our experience with

The Pop for Sight Words Game Bundle by Learning Resources is a set of learning games that encourages and promotes reading in children ages five and up. The games are fashioned to mimic popcorn containers which is a cute and clever way to draw in the attention of both boys and girls.
The games individually have 100 cards, 92 are sight words, & eight are POP cards. Everything can be contained neatly in each box that features a pretty snug fitting lid. There’s a even a little zip type plastic baggy included in each box to keep the pieces together within the inner compartment of the box. There’s no need to keep up with the instructions as those are displayed on the side of each box. Continue reading

Mental Blox is a brain boosting hands-on strategy game that was released this year by Learning Resources. It’s geared toward children ages 5-13 and there’s a wide variety of ways to use the game! I will vouch that there’s more than meets the eye on the surface of Mental Blox. It can either be a look & build stacking game, a listen and build game, and you can use it to teach a child about pattern sequencing as well as take an approach to educate a child on geometric shapes and the correct names.
