It is day 77 of having our community garden and it has truly surprised us. We feared that because we started so late in the growing season we would get little by this point in time. Though the soil wasn’t deeply tilled, fertilized and treated with layers of compost and many other nutrition it would fall flat, however it has grown well enough that we are enjoying its benefits daily!
Kale Is Among The Most Nutrient-Dense Foods on The Planet
Early Summer, I planted a good number 10+ Dinosaur Kale plants into our community garden. It was ready to pluck this week with the heat creeping higher. It doesn’t like over 90 degree weather and we are getting 100’s this weekend. A good rule of thumb is to harvest it when it’s about 10 inches high. In taking off the outer leaves, the plant will produce more inner leaves and a larger harvest.
I know some don’t like Kale but I do! You can eat it raw, saute it, dehydrate and bake it. One way I alter Kale up for my family is by presenting it to them in a snack format that is great for at home or for all those on the go travels and adventures.
It is time for a community garden update! As we are in the hottest time of the year, (100 degrees a few times last week) the vegetables, flowers and herbs are growing by leaps and bounds!
It has been one month to the date since we acquired our community garden plot. It’s been dug out, hoed, tilled and sowed with seeds of all sorts. How will it continue to grow? Only time will tell in that.
