Exciting Sights: Friends Who Paint at the Koth Gallery

The Koth Gallery located at the Longview Public Library in Longview, Washington, has on display during the month of May 2025 the captivating works of locals Joules Martin and Scott McRae.

I love that these two local friends from Longview came together to showcase their art. Their works, which blend seamlessly with one another, share common themes of florals, plant life, nature, and scenery. This combination offers viewers a unique perspective that goes beyond what is typically seen with the naked eye.

It was a special treat to see our beautiful Lake Sacagawea located in Longview, Washington depicted in a unique and awe-inspiring style of art. The scene, set during the fall season, captures the charm of the well-trodden bridge and the lake beautifully.

I love how in some of the paintings unconventional materials like chopsticks and hairpicks were utalized to bring forth what is seen. The color palletes work well and the lighting and shadows are perfectly placed.

I really enjoyed this art exhibit. The nature scenes, as well as the depictions of flora and fauna, can be often overlooked in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. That said, these artworks provide a sense of comfort, inspiration, and awe that is all around us. I appreciate both artists’ interpretations of these themes and images and feel encouraged to explore more of their work.
