Dehydrating Apples in a Food Dehydrator
The apple trees on the farm have been overflowing with delicious apples this Autumn season, and my family has been hard at work preserving them for future snacking.
We decided to dehydrate the apples, and the result has been a wonderful, healthy snack that we enjoy at home and when bringing along on our field trips and adventures.
Our apple peeler, slicer & corer has cut the time in half if not more in readying apples for not just dehydrating but also for pies, sauces, and so forth when it comes to apples. Both my teens have no issues working on this helpful kitchen device and highly recommend it!
How we dehydrate is as follows;
Set initial temperature to 145°F when there is surface moisture on the fruit.
After one hour, reduce the temperature to 135 to 140°F to finish drying the slices.
I allow for 6 to 12 hours for apple slices to dry.
My youngest loves dehydrated apples, it is one of the only ways she’ll eat them. I am pleased we can preserve foods in such a way while also encouraging healthy eating and snacking choices!
Are you preserving anything this Autumn season?
It’s going to be in the thirties the next couple of days. I have to rearrange the den for all my porch plants. It’s an annual project. I never get used to it. Then, I have to find a place for the Christmas tree after Thanksgiving. ?? Many of my plants need repotting but it’s not happening before the frost. Soil is so expensive. ??? Well, those apples look awesome. I look forward to seeing your creations with the dried apples. Enjoy the autumn. Blessings ?????
