Exquisite Events: Rainier Revisited
This year, my children, friends, and I had a wonderful time at Rainier Revisited, a charming local reenactment that brings our town’s history in the 1850’s to life.
This reenactment, located at the Beaver Homes Grange, was put on April 20th, 2024, by the Rainier Junior/Senior High School History Club and has been an ongoing event for many years now, this being their 12th.
The event is truly something special. The students and teachers from the school dress in costumes of the era, such as those of soldiers, merchants, farmers, and townsfolk, each taking on different professions. They reenact soldier drills, showcase blacksmithing, feature cute animals, music, and games that would have been played by children during that time. There are props you would find in a town from the 1850s, such as cast-iron cookware, Dutch ovens, anvils, quilts, and more.
My children and I enjoyed playing games, petting animals (bunnies, goats, kittens…), doing crafts, sampling salted pork, and learning a bit about history throughout!
It was a wonderful experience to witness the history of Rainier brought to life at this event. My children and I are eagerly anticipating attending the event again next year to show our support for the students, community, and the excellent outreach programs.
The admission to the event is just a single canned food donation per person, which goes to support our local food bank and community outreach program, H.O.P.E. of Rainier. This program services many people in our community including one such as my family.
