Neighborliness- Love Like Jesus. Cross Dividing Lines. Transform Your Community {Review}
Jesus commanded us not just to love Him with all our heart but also to Love Your Neighbors but “Who classifies as my neighbor?” Is it the person next door to me? Is it the people that live on my street solely? Does it classify as those I go to church or work with or is the reach even farther?… Well, David Docusen helps to answer those questions within his book ““.
This book is an eye-opener, a personal testimony, and a practical guide in things you can do to bridge the gap with your neighbor no matter what race, political affiliation, or economic divide on your own and with your church. We are reminded that as the church we are meant to lead and not just react to conversation.
There is a total of 14 chapters in this title as well as resources, notes, acknowledgments, and how you can present this book to your church with materials for further discussion.
Each chapter starts with a quote that lays the foundation for what you are about to read. The reading stems from personal stories from the author, statistics, and so forth. It ends with a “discussion” in which there is a scriptural verse, five or so questions to ask yourself, and a next step prompt.
I didn’t find the book a difficult or confusing read. That said, I would encourage a slower pace when read to thoroughly take everything in and respond in a considerable and prayerful way as it speaks to your heart.
This book can be life-changing if you apply it to your life for the change of the community for the glory of the Kingdom going forward with absolute truth and grace. The benefit is truly beautiful in what bridging these mentioned gaps can do in treating each other as people not just projects.
