She Believed: 12 Stories of Courageous Women of Faith Who Changed the World
She Believed: 12 Stories of Courageous Women of Faith Who Changed the World is a wonderful collection of stories for girls and boys that sheds light on a few ladies that followed God’s calling in their lives!
This book is what I would call a simplified version of these 12 ladies amazing stories and testimonies for the kingdom. That said, the short write-ups are quite ideal in size and detail for the aged children this book is geared to of 5-8 years old.
The book has no introduction but jumps right into meeting each women. The stories all start with the name of the lady, time of birth/death, an attribute ( example “She Prayed”, She Had Hope, etc), a writing on who she was and what she did, and ends with a reminder of what God can do in us and a scripture verse. The left hand page has the writing and the right page features a illustrated picture of who the story is about.
The stories feature the following ladies; Gladys Aylward, Edith Schaeffer, Clara Barton, Mary Slessor, Catherine Booth, Corrie Ten Boom, Amy Carmichael, Mother Teresa, Fanny Crosby, Sojourner Truth, Florence Nightingale and Harriet Tubman. These vary from what they did as some are missionaries and others nurses while we learn of a hymn writer and a few who fought for the civil rights of others. My kids personally recognized the mention of the “Salvation Army”.
I quite enjoyed this book myself and in sharing it with my children. I feel there’s just enough here to get a general idea of who these ladies are and to jump-start conversations and further study on what they did and the time it took place. Recommended.
