SGT. STUBBY: AN AMERICAN HERO {Movie Review}
Grab the tissue box because you’ll need it if you decided to embark on watching the family friendly critically acclaimed film SGT. STUBBY: AN AMERICAN HERO . This based a true story film captured my family in from the start and had us on the edge of our seat till the finish.
This film is about the unbreakable bond between a young Soldier and a stray dog who, for his valorous feats, is still recognized today as the first dog promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army, the most decorated dog in American history and is widely considered the forerunner to the U.S. Army’s working dog program. Returning home to a hero’s welcome, Stubby and Conroy toured the country leading victory parades and met three sitting U.S. presidents, among other honors.
Set against the backdrop of America’s entry into World War I (2018 marks the centennial celebration of the end of this great conflict), this delightful, computer-animated feature shows the world that the greatest heroes can come from the unlikeliest of places.
An all-star voice cast includes Logan Lerman, Helena Bonham Carter and Gerard Depardieu.
We truly enjoyed watching this film together. It does have some expected suspenseful moments but that is completely expected since it’s based on a story taking place during the war. The are upsetting moments but you aren’t going to see anything gruesome or traumatizing. The film is rated PG so one would need to use their better judgment to expose their children to this film.
I’m pleased that the movie is 100% clean from language, crude jokes, or any other questionable material. This is heartfelt story that displays friendship, determination, courage, perseverance, and never giving up.
The film is a great choice to use for learning about this time in history. There are many special bonus features that take a look at the true story of Sgt. Stubby providing Historical Image gallery, cast interviews, behind the scenes, and so forth. Run time is 84 minutes long and there is spanish subtitles, closed captions, and descriptive audio.
SGT. STUBBY: AN AMERICAN HERO has been lauded by critics and received the Dove Foundation’s “All Ages” Seal of Approval, the Parents’ Choice Gold Award, the National Parenting Center’s Seal of Approval and four plugs (out of five) from Focus on the Family’s Plugged In, making it an ideal holiday gift that the entire family will enjoy!
