A Very Thankful Prayer By Bonnie Rickner Jensen {Book Review}

A Very Thankful Prayer By Bonnie Rickner Jensen and illustrated by Natalia Moore captures the Autumn season perfectly. The cover of the book draws you in with shiny foil leaves falling from the tree and being swept off the ground by the wind. The book is geared toward toddler, preschoolers, and anyone else that is captivated by this particular season.

The board book format makes it so it will last for a long time. It consists of 24 pages that I no doubt feel will be turned again and again.  The colorful illustrations are such a joy to look at.  The characters are friendly animals that are enjoying everything that’s to love about Fall. There are friends playing with each other at the park, families picking pumpkins together, gathering apples for pie or to make candy on a stick, celebrating Thanksgiving together, roasting marshmallows by the fire, helping others, and so much more!

I think the color scheme is perfect. There are hues of purple, oranges, browns, and yellows. All the details from the knitted stitches on the hats and scarves of the animals make this book a stand out for me! There’s nothing frightening among the pages or anything to do with Halloween for families that don’t celebrate that holiday.

The text in the book is written in a rhyming way that’s great for reading aloud and memorization. The book is all about thankfulness so readers and listeners are reminded to thank God for everything He gives us during Fall.  Examples to be thankful for included in the book are farmers for the food we need, warm clothes, family, friends,  and God’s love to name just a few things.

This is my favorite Fall themed Christian book for children that we’ve added to our library. All my kids adore it too. I read it weekly to my 15-month-old and she really likes looking at it with me.

I would recommend this book all families, churches, and preschools to welcome in the upcoming season. It’s a great offering to instill thankfulness, prayer to God, and excitement about this time of the year.
