The Berenstain Bears 5-Minute Inspirational Stories: Read-Along Classics {Book Review}

The Berenstain Bears 5-Minute Inspirational Stories: Read-Along Classics collection of 12 stories is perfect for children four through eight years old.  Life lessons such as loving one another, showing mercy, being a good friend, the importance of prayer, and reminders of God’s grace and love are all prevalent in this book. Long time of fans of the series will be happy to share with little ones as I know I have been. This book is a good pick for reading alone or together during any time of the day.
This book is really a bargain at just $12.00 on Amazon (as of this posting) for twelve stories! I love collections of stories because it means fewer books to keep up with and everything stays tidy together. Another plus is that the book can travel along with us wherever we go and we’ve got stories for long trips to read all at once or to space them out!

Stories included are:

  • The Berenstain Bears and the Forgiving Tree
  • The Berenstain Bears God Loves You
  • The Berenstain Bears Say Their Prayers
  • The Berenstain Bears Love Their Neighbors
  • The Berenstain Bears’ Faithful Friends
  • The Berenstain Bears’ Biggest Brag
  • The Berenstain Bears and the Gift of Courage
  • The Berenstain Bears Blessed are the Peacemakers
  • The Berenstain Bears Get Involved
  • The Berenstain Bears’ Gossip Gang
  • The Berenstain Bears God Bless Our Home
  •  The Berenstain Bears Here’s the Church, Here’s the Steeple.

I think the stories are well written. The Bears come across issues, concerns, and day to day things that most families would. Now we might not always handle issues as well as the Bears but their stories serve as a reminder in how we should.

One quibble I have with the book is there are no Bible verses. I really wish scripture was included whether at the beginning, end or woven into the stories. I was quite surprised none was included considering in most of the books in the series has it included.

The art is similar to that which I grew up with over 25 years ago. I am happy they are sticking with that. The illustrations are interesting to look at for kids while stories are being read.

Now the title does say 5-minute stories but I stand to say each story will take a little longer than that to read. This will range from how fast you read if there are interruptions and questions, etc which do always seem to come up when I read to my children.  I would say reading time for each story is closer to 8-10 minutes.

Overall, this is not a bad choice if you are looking to have more than one  Berenstain Bears stories added to your home or church book collection. It’s a good choice to keep at a Grandparents home too for those day and overnight visits.
