I’m Going to Give You a Bear Hug! {Board Book Review}

I’m Going to Give You a Bear Hug!, written by bestselling author Caroline B. Cooney, is a happy book! It’s playfulness, clever text and engaging pictures make this a story that little ones will ask for again and again. The warmth, comfort, and snuggles it fills one with makes this an exceptionally good pick for ending the day at bedtime.

This book is available in both board book and hardcover format.  I have it in both. My oldest two children have claimed the hardcover format and I’m using the board book for my 8-month-old daughter. Age recommendations are for 4-8-year-olds but I feel a child younger than that would also benefit. Each of my children has been enjoying this book! My eldest said the pictures are beautiful and my son told me he liked seeing the different types of hugs. My baby girl listens while I read as the book rhymes and flows excellently keeping the attention of the listeners!

This book makes bedtime fun. There are lots of silly hugs to talk about from the slippery hugs a fish would give to the kind you would receive from a duck. The descriptiveness is great and the illustrations cover the text extremely well. Animals that make appearances in this story are pigs, dogs, cats, horse,  ducks, fish, whale, bugs, sheep, and last but not least a bear. Hugs can be squishy, soft, cuddly, slippery, snug, and so much more. You can ask your child as you read what kinda of hug they like the best, perhaps it’s a hug filled with tickles!

This book has become a bedtime favorite in our home! It promotes interaction and helps littles ones get all their wiggles out before sleep.
