In the newest Berenstain Bears Living Lights book, The Berenstain Bears and the Christmas Angel, the cubs discover there’s more to angels than wings and flowing white robes!
It is almost Christmas and there is finally snow in Bear Country. Brother, Sister, and Honey Bear are ready for some winter fun! But when they can’t decide what kind of snowbear to build, Honey Bear’s snow angel gives the older cubs a great idea. Soon the cubs have built a Christmas snow angel. Later, as they warm up with some hot cocoa, Mama and Papa give the cubs a little lesson about some very special angels and the work they do for God.
The Berenstain Bears’ and the Christmas Angel has got my family excited about the upcoming Holiday season. This story starts with the Bible verse Luke 1:19 which reads “The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news”.
The story begins with the cubs anticipating a snow day and what they do once it arrives. As most, kids the cubs decide to build a snowman but not just any but a snow angel. The snow angel then prompts a discussion among the bears about a very important angel mentioned in the Bible named “Gabriel”. The cubs learn that angels are often God’s messengers that bring very special messages.
I like how this book explains angels, especially the important role they played during Christ entering and being born unto the earth. At the back of the book, there’s a page listing the Bible story, scripture references and short bit about other angels mentioned in the Word of God. This is a wonderful book that teaches and simplifies just one of the important roles that happened during the Christmas story. The illustrations are fun and my kids listened well and really didn’t have any questions after the story was over because what was explained was easy to understand.
This would be a wonderful book to have around during the Holiday season. Perhaps we’ll read this book and then do some fun angel themed crafts after.
