The Moodsters and expressing our feelings…
My son is five years old and he’s still learning about his emotions. He recently gained a little sister. In having a little sister, he’s been learning more about being patient, etc. We’ve been taking extra time to make sure he doesn’t feel left out or scared we don’t love him anymore because of our new addition to the family. I won’t lie, it’s been a challenge.
This is where The Moodsters is helping. This product though meant mainly for children for going back to school and interacting with their peers has been helpful for us. Also even though we homeschool, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t attend classes etc. He goes to church and also has been getting used to moving into a new classroom with all sorts of new experiences and rules to follow with common aged peers.
Basically, this product is for kids ages 4 to six years olds. There are several characters in plush and book format that represent a single emotion. The emotions that are covered are afraid, loving, happy, sad, and angry. These have served as a good jumping board in sharing how we feel in a acceptable way i.e not stomping, yelling, crying, etc. My son took especially well to the feelings notebook and has jotted down whether in word or picture when he was feeling a certain way.
He’s learning it’s okay to feel a certain way with The Moodsters and that there are better ways to handle them without having full out outbursts and tantrums. Now I’m not saying we still don’t have those things happening but this has certainly been helping. Being five years old and seeing and experiencing a lot of the world can be pretty overwhelming! Anything that can help and is well received by a child is very welcome! I would certainly recommend this line to parents and caregivers.
