The Berenstain Bears’ Harvest Festival { Book Review}

The Berenstain Bears’ Harvest Festival has got my family excited about the upcoming Autumn season. This story starts with the Bible verse Psalm 67:6 which reads “The land yields its harvest; God our God blesses us.” It sets the tone in being grateful for all the Lord has done for us.

The Bear family discusses and recollects the things they love about Fall such as the foods, the leaves changing colors, and the harvest celebrations. The Bear family attends the first ever Chapel in the Woods Harvest Festival. At the festival, they harvest apples, pick pumpkins, enjoy hayrides, partake in a meal together, and hear a word from the Lord from Preacher Brown.

The illustrations throughout are bright, cheerful, and have many things for young ones to gaze upon while the book is being read. We loved seeing the friendly scarecrows, the plentiful pumpkin patches, and the silly squirrels eagerly collecting acorns in preparing for winter.

Children will learn throughout the story the importance of offering God our first fruits (whatever they may be in our lives), working together in community, and being thankful. The back of the book has a section titled “Activities and Questions from Brother and Sister Bear”. This section list three things to talk about and 2 things to Get out and do. I like this section was included as it’s challenged my family in ways that will grow us closer to each other and God.
