Having lost his faith many years ago, Detective Bill Broadly is called to investigate the disappearance of the local church’s collection plate. As he questions its various church members, rumors swirl as more congregants learn about the theft. When one unexpected church-goer confesses to stealing the funds, the confession resurrects Broadly’s views on God, and helps him see that through faith and belief there really is rebirth and redemption.
My husband and I enjoy watching christian films and are more than eager to spread the word about them. We enjoyed this flick quite a bit and felt the its message was portrayed very well. The movie is completely family friendly though I feel it’s best suited for the teen to adults age group. There’s drama, mystery, and a bit of romance all mixed in. The movie flowed well and nothing felt out of place.
Thoughts from my Husband on the Movie:
I enjoyed the movie. It’s a drama about a theft at a church, the investigation, and a look into the lives of those involved.
The pacing did feel a tad slow to start. Despite that though, the story was not dull or uninteresting. It didn’t drag on, and the tension increased as it went along.
The characters had depth. They acted a lot like real people. They had real problems in their lives. No one felt like a cardboard cutout.
The interactions with the characters is fun to watch. Some are at odds, and the tension is there. It was good to see various viewpoints from realistic characters. No straw men here to make a point out of. The characters had beliefs and they stated them as someone who believes that way.
The only real issue I have with is the opening and ending “wrapper” to the film. It starts with a preacher who tells the story of the movie, and then ends with him closing his sermon out. I don’t think it was necessary. Without it, the story would have started at a dramatic moment, at a point of conflict, and would have ended at a nice moment with all story needs fulfilled.
The movie is well made, the characters are believable, and the plot felt natural. This is certainly worth giving a watch.
My Overall Thoughts…
I feel no matter where one is in life they can take much away from this movie. It’s certainly not a flick to pass by. It would be perfect for a family movie night, a church viewing, or to see with a group of friends. It presents an awesome message in a way that keeps ones interest.
