Psalm 23 Illustrated by Richard Jesse Watson {Book Review}

The words of David found in the 23rd Psalm of the Bible, I took to heart as very young child. It’s known as the Shepherds psalm and has always been a favorite of mine.  I was ever so pleased to have come across it offered up in board book format. I believe having a visual to our God and Saviors love and guidance for our lives can make it come alive in a deep meaningful way.

Richard Jesse Watson’s life like illustrations beautifully guide readers from the start to the finish of the verse. His artwork is touching and captures the verse in a great way. There’s a darling baby lamb as well as a young boy and girl. I feel the addition of children in the illustrations was a good idea. Children can relate to seeing other kids and in turn be more invested in what’s being read.

I certainly enjoyed gazing upon each page and was eager for the next. The illustrations span across both pages. At the end of the book, there’s a page that features the 23rd Psalm in its entirety. The verse is taken from the KJV format of the Bible.

Overall, I like this book very much. I feel this a good choice for memorizing this particular verse. It would be a wonderful choice and a welcome gift to friends and family. A nice addition to any home, school, or at church library. I recommend it.
