I was recently given the opportunity to share my thoughts upon and spread the news on a new set of Christ centered books written specifically for children by Graham Blanchard & Callie Grant.
The Learn, Absorb & Praise™ Classic Collection has three titles which are Knowing My God: Jesus Shows Me, All of Me That You Can’t See, and Mud Puddle Hunting Day. Each of the books each have a specific purpose and come from certain lines that in different ways nurtures and has potential to grow the spiritual development of a child. This particular set is recommended for Ages 0-7 years old. My son age 4 and my daughter age 6 had benefited much from each! My aim is to have thought provoking books and those that point toward growing deeper in Christ in my home and this set certainly fits that target.
Mud Puddle Hunting Day is from the Praise collection in which the sole purpose is to celebrate the beauty and wonders of God. In this book, we meet a little girl and her dog that are searching for mud puddles on a wet day. We live in Oregon and my children see a lot of wet days. My son was very interested in this book because he really loves mud and puddles. It’s a real challenge to keep from jumping and splashing anytime he’s outside no matter where he’s headed! I like that the wet Spring day in this story is celebrated.
The Bible verse this book mentions is Psalm 100:1 which instructs us to shout for joy to the Lord! The illustrations were colorful and my children had fun browsing the pages. The writing flows and the book was easy for my daughter to read all on her own! The story prompted conversations amongst my children and how things look different but still are beautiful and fun for play when the days are wet and the ground soggy. They loved the ending in which a rainbow was discovered reminding us of God’s promise.
There are resources on the Graham Blanchard website for parents or teachers to use along side with this title to make it even more engaging for children!
“Jesus Shows Me,” from the Knowing My God series, is a learn book. The learn books use directly quoted Bible passages along with beautiful photographs and supportive text to relate the meaning to your child’s life. These multi-layer books grow with your child. A section with tips for grown-ups is included in the book .
In this book, the scripture reference is John 15:9-14. Children will see and learn through animal mothers, fathers, and groups how God is always near to us. Each page has a different part of the Bible scripture followed by a paragraph about the animals featured on the left side of the spread.
An example of what you’ll find within the pages each part of the scripture verse reads “Now Remain in my love” & on this spread there’s a Kangaroo with a baby in her pouch. The paragraph of information about the Kangaroo talks about baby Joeys and how they remain with their mothers. So not only does your children about God’s love for them but they are learning about nature too. It’s one of my favorites in the collection!
All of Me That You Can’t See by Callie Grant & illustrated by Jeremy Tugeau is one the titles to be found in the Absorb line of books. The Absorb books give children a view of God that can be understood on their level. Through this title and the others in this line, children will learn they are created by God, that He loves them, and that they can trust in Him. This book does a wonderful job in explaining to a child our inner-being. The heart, the mind, strength, and our soul are the unseen areas of our lives that very important to learn about. These parts of ourselves can be influenced in all sorts of way as we start having a greater understanding of the world around us.
In this story, we follow a little boy recognizes his outer features but also his inner features. We see the boy make heart decisions like in being a good friend and helper, mind decisions learning from his parents guidance over his life, and so on. The story is based on Mark 12:30 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”. I feel that this book has hit the mark! The illustrations are kid appealing and the story text easy to understand for children.
This title has a Tips for Parents page that can be viewed on the Graham Blanchard website. I encourage any adult whether reading this book to a child at home or to a Sunday School class to check it out!
