Thunder and the House of Magic is a movie about an abandoned cat that happens upon a new family in a curious way. The story is full of whim and wonder leaving you wanting to know what’s going to happen the next. Who would expect anything less when the cat is taken in by a retired magician of all people! Trouble does however brew when their home is threatened from being sold out from under them. The animated visuals of the movie are ever so detailed and quite capturing! If you’ve seen A Turtle’s Tale and Sammy’s Adventures: Escape from Paradise, you’ll know what I am talking about and are sure to be taken with this film too!
This movie I would recommend sitting down and watching as a family or screening it first. There are some scenes that could pose a threat in being just a little too frightening for little ones. There’s a few seconds where the cat is rummaging around in the attic and a bunch of spiders are crawling around. So if a fear of bugs especially spiders is preset in a child about to watch this movie, I would take that into consideration. There’s also the inhabitants of the house of magic trying to scare off potential people that want to move into the home.
My only issues is that the villain of this movie kept saying the word damn and that he got so enraged that he went after the cat because he was allergic to him with a gun. So it’s a bit violent but not graphic and it ends well, despite some of the chaos.
Lessons that can be learned from this film are working together, friendship, and the importance of family. The movie is 85 minutes long and kept the attention of both my kids from start to finish. We had some great discussions after about the story and the characters.
