I Can Read: The Berenstain Bears God Shows the Way {Book Review}

The Berenstain Bears God Shows the Way is one of the many great titles in the Living Lights I Can Read! series. Having grown up listening to my own mother read other collections of Berenstain Bears books  to me, I for certain was thrilled to learn about this 3 books in 1 title to share with my own children. One of the biggest draws for me to this specific book was the fact that my daughter could not just listen but be able to read it aloud on her very own! She after listening to me read all three stories was confident enough to read it on her own and I’ve even caught her reading it aloud to her 3 1/2 year old brother!
The stories found in this book do not disappoint and are filled with great character values based upon a Bible Verse.  Each story starts with a verse and by the end of each the point and take away is pretty clear.  There aren’t any dicussion questions but the stories alone are great prompts into discussions about the topic at hand. The reading skill level for this book is 1. One means it’s filled with simple sentences. My daughter could read nearly all of the words herself only needing help with a few bigger words such as stalactites, stalagmites, and courageous are a few I recall her needing help on.The stories mainly have easy to read sentences with a few challenging words thrown in.

The three stories in this book teach children about having faith in God, trusting in the Lord when they are afraid, and about saving money.  The stories are easy to follow and the book is probably best suited for children around 4-8 years old. The compact size of the book and the fact that it is hardcover makes it pretty durable and easy to bring along in the car which is nice for any sort of traveling. I would recommend this title and am excited to get a hold of more in this collection! Never a dull moment with the Berenstain Bears.
