Primary Science Metal Detector {review & giveaway}

Summer is right around the corner so I’ve been coming up with activities and searching for a few toys for my kids to enjoy that are fun, hands-on, & can get them moving! My children enjoy spending time outdoors and exploring but when it’s a bit too warm out or raining we tend to spend a good amount of time indoors. I still aim to get my kids moving when they are inside the house and the newly released Primary Science Metal Detector from Learning Resources has been fabulous for my kids whether inside or out.

The Primary Science Metal Detector is quite kid appealing in bright colors of green and blue. The sizing (12″L x 5″W) is best for children around ages 3-5 years old. To work, the detector requires 2 AAA batteries which aren’t included. We’ve been using rechargeable batteries and those last for days before the charge obviously is running low. The battery compartment lid can easily be removed with a small screwdriver and keeps the batteries secure and away from kids.

This metal detector for kids works much like one an adult would use! The handle pivots up and down and when metal is located, the detector beeps and the three red lights on the circular part of the detector light up! The handle is easy to grip for my 3 1/2 year old son and it seems to be pretty light-weight. He hasn’t once said that it was too heavy or showed signs of dragging it a long. On the handle there is a on/off switch that must be turned all the way on to the left to hear a beep and then back to the right slightly until the beeping stops to ready the detector.

My children have had so much fun using the Primary Science Metal Detector around our house and yard. We are really looking forward to taking it with us to the beach the Summer to see what treasures we may find! You can get pretty creative with the detector by creating scavenger and treasure hunts around your yard or park with metal items to locate! If you have a sandbox, it would be fun to hide a few items like coins, jacks, and other metal things to search for. It would also be great to bring along if your family partakes in geo-caching! My kids have been having so much fun discovering what everyday things are made out of metal and finding buried treasures strewn about!

I would certainly recommend The Primary Science Metal Detector for fun indoors or out. It seems to be quite durable and battery life seems to last a while. My son asks to play with it every single day! He’s having so much fun and probably not even realizing he’s learning a lot about the world him at the same time. A total win, if you ask me.
