In most places, school is out for the Summer season! Can you believe it? I can’t! For my family of four this means lots of time outdoors, extra play-dates throughout the week, and trips to all sorts of fun places like the zoo, a variety of parks, and our local science museum! But not without some awesome tunes for the whole family to enjoy. We quite enjoyed music whether to play while in our background to get the kids moving or to sing-a-long with on our way to nearly any destination! With that being said, have I got some great new releases to let you know about and a chance to win an awesome set of albums from a few Dads who really know how to rock!

Meet Eric Herman: This energetic Father of two & popular Youtube music video Star is releasing a brand new alum in early June called “Party Animal”. On this album there are ten songs and the runtime is about half an hour. The songs differ in music style quite a bit from country, funk, and a few styles in-between. The lyrics of the songs are silly, fun, and easy to follow for my 6 and 3 year old children. I’ll often catch them singing a long. Many of the tracks on Party Animal get my kids moving especially “November 1st” which get the kids jumping & “The Bicycle Song” which has a great beats and rhythms to clap or stomp along too. I’m quite impressed with this one-man band that not only performs typically solo but also is the leader of a live band called EricHerman and the Thunder Puppies.Details about Eric’s extremely packed summer concert tour are available on his website. We’ve overall enjoyed Eric’s album and have been checking out all his great music videos on Youtube!

Meet Brady Rymer: This Grammy nominee and fantastically fun family music artist is releasing his seventh album during the month of June. We are pretty big fans or Brady in our home. His upbeat music is hands-down some of the best and most original we’ve heard in the family music world! The songs you’ll find on his latest album feature all sorts of styles such as rag, old school rock and roll, americana, and more! The mix of instruments to hear such as acoustic guitar, drums, accordions, saxophone, and others bring the songs to life! I won’t deny that there’s usually always swaying, toe tapping, dancing, and singing happening between not just my kids but me as well!

There are 11 songs on his new release “Just Say Hi”, each with a style and unique rhythm of its very own. Songs like the Ice Cream Girl brings fun memories of the Summer season and the song Red Piano Rag is a story about learning an instrument from a Grandma and continuing to share the taught skill to the next generation! One of our favorites is the song Light of Love. This up-beat song gets encourages listeners to shine their light! The songs found on this album are of the importance of family, friendship, and being kind. My kids were pretty thrilled that guest vocals included some of our other favorite kid musicians which are Elizabeth Mitchell, Laurie Berkner and members of Recess Monkey. Brady is keeping busy recently having performed at the White House and soon to be having a SiriusXM concert special airing , and will perform on the kids’ stage at Lollapalooza in August. Totally check out this new CD, we weren’t disappointed in the least bit!

Meet Danny Weinkauf: Grammy Winner Danny Weinbauf (of They Might Be Giants) recently released his first solo family music album “No School Today”! This album is full of amusing & thoughtful songs that encourage kids to be kids and to learn a few things here and there. It’s always great to come across a family music album that sings about topics that can prompt discussion on important educational things to learn from! Such topics include kidney transplants, spelling bees, marsupials, archeology, healthy food, the first moon landing, and more! There are sixteen tracks on the album all written by Danny. Guests singing on the album include Laurie Berkner, Hank Green, his wife, kids, and some of the neighborhood kids spoke, sang, and shouted on a few tracks – and his son Kai sang lead on 4 songs. It’s great when an artist for an album for kids and families includes his whole family singing along! It’s really hard to pick favorite song off this album because they are all so cool and fun! One of the songs did prompt my kids really wanting some ice cream, be warned! But honestly what’s day without a little sweetness right? Samples of all the songs can be found at “Songs” on his website.  Check out the video for the track of No School Today on Youtube!

Meet Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band: This Husband and Wife team are known in the family music world for bringing some fabulous albums for those that speak English and Spanish (or those who are aiming to learn the Spanish Language) ! They’ve recently released a brand new fun album titled Aqui, Alla which pays homage to Diaz’s heritage of American and Latin! This upbeat album has been a delight to share with my children about other cultures and language different than their own. My kids that know a few words and phrases in Spanish really like the song Vamos a Contar Hasta Diez (Let’s Count to Ten) and can sing along! I personally love that the folk song De Colores I had learned when I was little girl was included! There are 9 songs on this album and you can listen to samples and download all lyrics as well as translations to English on the band’s website. The songs have a great rhythm and are fabulous to sing and dance along too! No disappointments here! We can’t wait for the next album to come out from these two but for now we’ll be enjoying this one! For more information on Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam, visit their website luckydiazmusic.com.
