Settled in the Blue Mountains of Pennsylvania, deep within America’s new frontier, the Leininger family celebrates the blessings of a beautiful homestead and bountiful harvest. That is, until tragedy strikes with the beginning of the French and Indian War and the devastating raid known as the Penn’s Creek Massacre.
The lives of this simple, God-fearing family are forever altered when Barbara and Regina, two young sisters, are carried away by a band of Allegheny warriors. Driven by their faith in God and the powerful bonds of family, Barbara and Regina hold firmly to the belief that they are never alone, even in their darkest hour, and that they will be reunited again.
Rich in historical details, Alone Yet Not Alone is an inspirational, true story of a family caught in the cross fire of the French and Indian War.
Alone Yet Not Alone is a tremendously powerful story of hope and truly understanding and knowing the abounding love of God even though life can be so uncertain at times. The special movie edition of the book I received, features eight pages of photos from the movie that will be coming out June 13th, 2014! I would suggest not flipping to see those till you’ve read the whole book if you don’t want any spoilers. The pictures however are exciting and historically accurate from what I could see. It makes me eager to see the movie with my family!
I know I will use this book in our homeschooling when my daughter is a little older. She’s five currently and I feel this would best be suited for children ages 8 and up. There are a few scary and frightening situations that are not suitable for young children. Though not terribly detailed, it should be known that it’s in this book. The writing style is easy to read and I got through the entire book in only a few hours. There are discussions questions at the end which can be used for study or book club use. I think it’s wonderful this story came to be and that it’s of true events! So note this won’t read from the perspective of anyone other than the main character and her experiences.
In Alone Yet Noy Alone, there is heartache, survival on bare to nothing, but hope is never ever lost. Oh, how we all can learn from such faith in God though sometimes are circumstances seem grim and lost. I throughly enjoyed the book and can’t wait to share it with my children when they are older.
