The Primary Science Color Mixing Set has been my families favorite newly released product by Learning Resources this year. I will continue to state to anyone that there’s nothing better than learning hands on (especially when it comes to my kids)! This set has made a great impact on my 3 and 5 year son & daughter. Their interest in colors all around them has peaked. They’ve been going around wondering what would happen if you mixed this or that color together to see what the end result would be. It’s truly a fabulous art & science set all combined into one! And if you ask me, it doesn’t get any better for learning and teaching preschool to kindergarten aged children about primary and secondary colors than with the aid of this set!
This set provides a lot of different ways to learn about colors! There are ten double-sided activity cards and a guide that is super easy to follow in how you can use this set. We haven’t done all the activities but I am sure we’ll do them soon. Though this set comes with many different items to aid in learning as well as teaching, for some of the activity suggestions, you’ll need to get a few extra things. For us, we made sure to pick up some food coloring dye as well as paint brushes and card stock for some of the projects. Other items to add to the fun and learning experience include a carnation flower, extra things to observe in the kaleidoscope, candy-coated chocolate, and few other things. Most things I imagine that many people will already have on hand and not have to make an extra trip to the store.
What you’ll find to use in this set includes a customizable kaleidoscope with color chips, spinning top with interchangeable color mixing discs, a 6-piece translucent color wheel, Color Mixing Glasses with 6 lenses, and 3 test tubes with lids and a dropper in a stand. Each of the items are eye catching and just the right size for children ages around 3-6 years old. I found everything to be easy to use and pretty durable!
My kids really enjoy using this set. I asked what their favorite activity we’ve done was and they told me all of them! They’ve both spent hours since we’ve got this set playing and learning about colors. I would have to say the smiles couldn’t be removed off their faces particular when they looked through the Color Mixing Glasses & when they used the the dropper and test tubes to make new colors and in turn use those colors as water paints! They even took turns really well using the test tubes and droppers but I would recommend perhaps if you used this set with more than one child another set of tubes and a dropper so they can have free range without having to wait their turn. Also another fun activity they really liked was the using the spinning top and the color mixing discs. You simply place the desired disk onto the top and spin and it displays when spun what color say blue and red make. Purple! Everything was so much fun, I know when I was a child I would have really enjoyed this set too.
There’s so many wonderful possibilities are endless fun to be had with the Learning Resources Primary Science Color Mixing Set!
It’s sure to be loved by any child and by any teacher looking out for the best interest of their students and a fun way to learn about color. Age recommendations are ages 3- 6 year old.
