Abrams Books for Young Readers: The Monkey Goes Bananas by C. P. Bloom (Book Review)

The Monkey Goes Bananas by C.P. Bloom is one of my children’s favorite new books. The story is about a determined Monkey that spies a delicious looking banana on not so far away island. The reader or listeners are taken on quite an amusing adventure on how the Monkey attempts to do this. Though the words are few, the cartoon illustrations by Peter Raymundo in this fast paced tale are what really makes this book stand out! The colors are bright and the characters extremely animated. The layouts of the illustrations change up here and there really keeping your eye on the story!

This book is really full of non-stop action and inventive ideas in how the Monkey will attempt to retrieve a banana! There’s water, stilts, a shark, and so many obstacles in the way! Who knows how the story will end! Will the monkey prevail? We know, but we won’t say! The story is best suited for children ages 3-7 years old. Early readers are likely to be delighted in reading this one, I know my daughter enjoys pulling this one out many times! My son age 3 and my daughter age 5 giggled out loud many times and were on the edge of their seat in anticipation in knowing whether or not this silly yet eager monkey would get his much desired treat!
