Abrams Books for Young Readers: Jim Curious {Book Review}

Jim Curious: A Voyage to the Heart of the Sea in 3-D Vision by Matthias Picard is quite an adventurous book a reader could easily become immersed in! Though this book is completely wordless, I will state that it’s not lacking at all! It features captivating 3-D illustrations of a young boy journeying into the depths of the ocean! Any lover of the Ocean, I am certain will enjoy the title! The book comes with not one but two sets of 3-D glasses. The glasses are stored and can be re-stored in a plastic envelope found on the back cover page of the book. The additional pair of glasses is wonderful addition as the book can be shared between a parent and child or a child and their best friend!

As readers open the book, they are informed that the book is best enjoyed with the 3D glasses that can be found in the back of the book. There are also some helpful suggestions to how to thoroughly enjoy the 3-d vision experience that is about to take place. As the adventure begins we follow a young boy garbed in a old fashion diving suit. He leaves the land and goes on quite the journey! Creatures that are happened upon and viewed in detail are sharks, jelly fish, sea-turtles, angler fish, and many more! Deeper and deeper as the reader goes we follow the young boy as he discovers a sunken ship and a lost city! There’s many twist and turns that will make you wonder what will be discovered next!

Both my children ages 3 and 5 most certainly enjoyed this book though it’s recommended for children ages 6-10 years old. It’s so full adventure and wonder! Words are totally not necessary but could inspire a child to write or draw their own adventure story about exploring the depths of the sea! It could even be used in a classroom setting in opening the door to learning about the sea and the creatures that dwell there. I would certainly recommend this title!
