February 19-25 is National Pancake Week! I don’t know about your family but mine will be not only enjoying eating pancakes but playing with them too. Play with your food? Yes, that’s right! But there will be no sticky messes. We’ll be taking full advantage by playing the Pancake Pile-Up!™ Relay Game which is one of the newest products offered by Educational Insights!
My children ages 5 and 3 totally adore the Pancake Pile-Up!™ Relay Game and I do too! The relay part of the game gets my kids up and moving which is especially important on those days when we just can’t get outside to burn off extra energy.
The game basically has your children role-play that they are working at a busy diner or restaurant. Their specific mission is to race back and forth to the grill following the menu card of each stack of pancakes they receive. This is a game of speed, coordination, sequencing, and a good way to get the kids to really pay attention.
The game comes with 10 pancakes that are in five different flavors – blueberry, strawberry, banana, chocolate, chip, and plain. The pancakes are well made and stack pretty easily. Also included are 2 pats of butter. What’s a pancake without butter to top of the stack right?
There are two plates & two spatulas, one for each player or team. 10 quite durable & colorful order cards. The griddle that the pancakes stay on till whisked away to a plate is inside the bottom of the box. I love how even the box is included in the game instead of just being used for storage.
I’ve let both my kids play this game numerous times and it’s been quite the hit. I really like that you can play the game with 2-12 players and that teams are encouraged! We plan on pulling this one out at our next play date with friends.
We’ve had a blast with this game. It’s a great way to get children moving and they are learning so much without even realizing it. I highly recommend it for indoor or outdoor use year round! I think it would make a great party game too! Age recommendations are 4 and up but I’ll just state my 3 year old son caught on quite quickly.
