Praying for Boys: Asking God for the Things They Need Most {Review}

Praying for Boys: Asking God for the Things They Need Most is a very beneficial book. The author Brooke McGlothin is a mother of a few sons herself and is the co-founder of the MOB society  (  And with this book she totally hits the nail on the head. I believe it would be a tremendous go to in  just knowing what and how we should be praying.

I’m going to have to admit that even though I’m married to a guy, when I had a son I was pretty clueless as to what to expect. I had four sisters growing up and no brothers! I was just not fully equipped for the energy, the stubbornness, rambunctiousness, and the physical behavior that often comes out of my son!  That testosterone is totally something I had no idea what do with! Reading & praying through this book has given me the knowledge needed  in learning how to pray and seek God for guidance in well guiding my son to grow to into the man he was created to be.

As you begin to read through the book, there’s an introduction from the author in why she wrote the book. There are a total of 21 chapters each pertaining to a specific areas to pray. Topics include things such as self-control, purity, overcoming fears, wisdom, pride, and a few others. The chapters begin with a mention of the topic followed by scripture verses that can be prayed, reflected upon, and discussed. In fact, the back of the book has a whole section on how to use this book as a group study.  I think it would be blessing no matter if you go through the book solo or with others.

I must mention that though specifically geared toward boys, a lot of what is mentioned within the pages can also be applied to girls.  I’ve been reading through each day and praying many of the scriptures given and topics mentioned over both my son and my daughter.

If you are a mother, grandmother, or caretaker of any number of boys, I would highly recommend picking up a copy of this book. There’s nothing stronger than the power of prayer over any person seeking God’s will. I am sure I will be coming back to the book again and again! It’s simple, straight forward, and written as if a conversation with a good friend. It’s made me a bit more intentional with my prayers for my son each day and I pray it would be for others too.
