Whispers of Hope by Beth Moore is a devotional written to grow your prayer life. There are 70 devotionals meaning there would be 10 weeks devoted to this study. I would like to point out that if you are short on time especially in the morning hours you may not get the most out of this devotional study. In fact, you would need to set side 35-40 minutes of interrupted time to read, pray and journal.
Beth has an acronym for prayer that is P.R.A.I.S.E. This stands for Praise, Repentance, Acknowledgement, Intercession, Supplication for Self, and Equipping. She introduces us to each idea to organize our thoughts as we journal. Each devotion begins with a Bible verse followed by the author’s thoughts on the scriptural topic on hand. Sometime shared is thoughts on the Biblical characters mentioned and sometimes instead a personal story is shared that often I believe most can relate to. An example is one day you’ll read about what the Bible has to say about Honesty and another the daily-ness of God that sometimes we can miss when life gets busy.
I personally have only read a few days worth because with two young ones, it’s been hard to find that quiet un-interrupted time in the morning hours. I’m setting this one on the shelf for another season in my life. But that doesn’t mean I won’t be daily working on my prayer life and listening to God’s call. Prayer is very powerful and we should never lose the importance of it whether you only have time for short ones throughout the day or longer ones in the morning. God is listening.
Overall this is a wonderful book for personal study and would make a heart-felt encouraging gift to a friend or loved one. I feel that even if you can’t take the 30-4o minutes to read the devotion as well as journal that you take what you’ve read and contemplate and speak to God on it throughout the day. There are truly some powerful applications within the text.
