Blessings for the Evening by Susie Larson {Book Review}

Blessings for the Evening is a book that has taken residence on my night stand. I believe strongly in beginning the day with God and in ending it that way as well. Too often have I gone to bed with the worries of the world and the days ahead of me on my mind. This book has been a wonderful distraction to set my mind on the things above and reminder to cast all my cares upon my heavenly Father.

As you open the book, you’ll find the contents. The contents list the blessings by title and also lists a few that are meant for different and/or special occasions (Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, Spiritual Warfare, Grief, and so on) Each blessing or devotion as I call them (there’s about 90) are on a two spread layout. There’s a stunning photo as the background and the scripture verse is on one page followed by the devotion on the next.

The devotions I believe can be read like prayers. I found all extremely uplifting and reassuring. There’s most certainly something to be said about filling your mind with the Word of God in your hours of rest. Also I thought it wonderful the author included such beautiful photography! Setting your eyes upon His beautiful creations (i.e the photos with each daily blessing!) is quite calming.

This book would be a great addition to any nightstand or bedside table. This book would also make a wonderful gift for someone needing peace and reassurance in their life. It reminds me of these little books of poetry and scripture my Grandma had all over here house. Overall, I most certainly would recommend it.
