Audrey Bunny is a heartfelt story geared toward children ages 4-8 with the main purpose to let children know they are wonderfully made by God despite whatever flaw may come to mind. In this story, we are first introduced to a bunny named Audrey. This bunny is eagerly waiting to chosen by a child out of a barrel in a store. But she fears she’ll never be picked because she isn’t perfect like the other toys. In fact, she has a mark across the area where her heart would be. And no matter how many times she tries to wipe it off, it doesn’t budge.
One day to her surprise, Audrey is chosen. She goes home with a little girl named Caroline. Caroline loves the bunny despite her imperfections though Audrey the bunny keeps on trying to hide her mark in various ways during play. Later in the book, the bunny finally realizes just how much the little girl loves her despite the imperfection just as God loves us. And that the imperfection was actually why the little girl chose the bunny to begin with.
What I really love about this book is that there’s a Parent’s Connection area. In this section, there is a Bible Verse the book is centered around ( Psalm 119:73). There’s a Read section that parents can use along with their children to look up scripture. A Think section with questions prompts that go along with the story. And there’s a Do section which encourages children to write a letter to themselves from God. This book is a perfect story for discussion and family prayer time.
I did a little digging to know what inspired this story and was deeply touched. I would encourage you if interested to read it as well. Overall a lovely story with warm illustrations that fit the story perfectly. I would most certainly recommend it.
