How exciting that Mary Poppins recently released from the Disney Vault in celebration of its 50th Anniversary! It’s also appearing for the first time in Blu-Ray having been restored digitally! If you’ve seen this one before you’ll most certainly want to grab a copy to share and enjoy for many more years to come. It’s such a classic!
Personally, it has been such a delight to have seen Mary Poppins again after so many years. I am pretty sure I was about five years old when I first saw it and now I’m sharing it with my two children ( ages 5 and almost 3). There’s that special sort of whimsy that comes with a character like Mary Poppins that most assuredly is never forgotten. I know if I ever had a nanny, I’d want it to be her! She indeed is practically perfect in every way
Since seeing this film again I’ve found myself humming popular songs from the flick such as “A Spoonful of Sugar” & “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,”. Seeing the film again sparked a memory that during Summer camp in my teenage years, a young man brought his Accordion and was playing “Chim Chim Cher-ee” during music class for fun. Proof that indeed Mary Poppins is a classic movie and story with songs that impact those of all ages.
Throughout the film my kids were constantly giggling and laughing out loud. Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews did an exceptional job in their acting making their character roles completely unforgettable. If we can learn anything from Mary Poppins it’s that life doesn’t have to be boring and lighting up is good thing. Also why not make each day an adventure?
The runtime of the movie is 140 minutes but my kids didn’t once budge from watching the film even though it’s a bit longer than they are used to for a movie. There are many interesting bonus features such as:
· Mary-OKE’s – New piece highlights popular music from the film, specifically“Spoon Full of Sugar,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” Step In Time,” “Chim Chim Cher-ee” and allows viewer to sing-along to animated words that display onscreen in unique ways.
· Becoming Mr. Sherman (TBC by theatrical team): Join actor Jason Schwartzman as he sits down for a fun and musical-filled afternoon with Richard Sherman. In the new film, SAVING MR BANKS, Schwartzman portrays the Disney Legend… half of the famous composing team, the Sherman Brothers who wrote all the classic songs from MARY POPPINS, as well as many other favorites. Hear heartwarming, revealing stories about the making of this beloved musical, get more insight on working with Walt Disney, and get a unique sneak peek into SAVING MR BANKS, starring Tom Hanks, and Emma Thompson.
Overall, Mary Poppins a great family movie full of fun songs, entertaining characters, and memorable moments. I would highly recommend grabbing a copy this Holiday season!
