Disney’s The Lone Ranger is an exciting tale full of action and adventure from start to finish! If you like westerns, chances are you’ll probably want to pick up this family friendly flick (though please note the pg -13 rating )! I’m pretty happy with the results of the film paying its proper homage having grown up watching the re-runs of the original 1950’s tv shows.
The movie starts with a young boy from the 1930’s listening to a tale told by Tonto about the Lone Ranger. We learn the the amusing yet also very serious story of how the duo came to be. I have heard some say there wasn’t enough back story or character development but I think for the high action and adventure expected there was plenty enough in the two hour and twenty minutes of run-time.
There is a pg-13 rating on this movie. In most westerns, there’s drinking, smoking, and the occasional visit to the local brothel. There was no sexual content and the suggestive themes were at a very minimum. Seriously it was such a short moment that it’s likely not even to be remembered or particularly cared about while following our main characters.
Gun Fights. De-railed Trains. Explosives. Lots of action and excitement. As for the violence, there was really only one particularly gory part and I’ll spare the details. You just know the bad guy is a very bad guy and he makes you a bit sick to your stomach. If you want to spare your kids from seeing that, there’s a fast forward button. No reason to not enjoy the rest of the movie save for one disturbing part.
The visuals were amazing. The acting was exceptional ( especially by Depp!). The bonus features included on the The Lone Ranger (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy) were well worth watching. Maybe, just maybe this flick will turn a generation to wanting to be a ranger, cowboy, or Indian again save for all the super hero stuff out there ( though I love super heroes too!). I am certainly looking forward to more adventures of Tonto and the Lone Ranger in the future!
