The Scholastic Storybook Treasures collection recently released Children Make Terrible Pets and more stories about family DVD. This brand new collection offers children’s book stories brought to life by some of my own favorite authors such as Lois Lowry!
Peter Brown’s children’s book Children Make Terrible Pets is quite a fun story. I’d never heard it before and it most certainly had my children and I in giggles with it’s rather comical story line. This story and the others included in the collection support teaching about friendship, families, and tolerance.
Personally, hearing and seeing what inspired how Children Make Terrible Pets and many of the other stories featured on the DVD were created was such a special treat for my children and I! I’m so glad that those interviews were included in the creation of this collection. They were quite inspirational, interesting, and could invoke perhaps even a career in illustrating or story writing within a child!
The original stories have won many awards, including The New York Times Best Illustrated Book, the E.B. White Read-Aloud Picture Book Award and the Black Award for Excellence in Children’s Literature.
