Newman’s Own Organics Chocolate Cups {review & giveaway}

 When Nell Newman and business partner Peter Meehan started Newman’s Own® Organics: The Second Generation® in 1993, they were sure there was a market for organic snack  foods, but they couldn’t have anticipated just how fast the demand for their products would grow. What started with pretzels and grew to include other snack foods has now expanded to many other organic items: coffee, tea, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, organic dried fruit, and pet food.

Great tasting products that happen to be organic is our slogan,” says Nell. “It really says a lot about us. We’ve seen in recent years that people want to know more about the food they eat, not just how many calories a product contains. It’s becoming more important to them how ingredients are grown and processed on the way to their grocers’ shelf. Once people see how much organic foods have improved since the early days of packaged`health‘ foods, we feel they’ll seek them out.”

P1100030Recently, Newman’s Own® Organics introduced Super Dark Chocolate Cups with Raspberry Centers and Super Dark Chocolate Cups with Peanut Butter Centers to their line of products. My family of four was thrilled to learn about this addition and even more excited to try them for ourselves!

The Super Dark Chocolate Cups Peanut Butter & Raspberry come in a 1.9oz. package containing 6 individual mini-cups and carries the USDA Organic and Rainforest Alliance Certified™ seals. Each package of chocolate cups cost $2.79. I was happy about these being in a pack of six compared to the others in the line that only have 3 per package. This feature makes it easier to share with my husband and the kids!

The company uses 70% Cocoa in these and Nell Newman (co-founder and president of the company) states “Raspberry and chocolate has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid and these cups are a perfect blend,”. As well as “It’s also hard to resist peanut butter and chocolate. The chocolate is the same high quality that is used in our Signature Chocolate Bar and Cup line, which produces a richer flavor and creamy mouth texture. Two mini-cups are under 100 calories and are a perfect small sweet treat.”

I’ll state that these did not last long in our home. We all felt that they were the perfect blend of chocolate as well as the filling that was in the center. I especially loved the dark chocolate peanut butter cups. I felt the chocolate wasn’t overly sweet and the peanut butter tasted very natural (no weird grainy after taste at all!). My kids loved both but were bigger fans of the raspberry filled cups! They were quite surprised after having just the peanut butter ones to bite into a raspberry filled one! We highly recommend them if you are looking for a healthy chocolate snack!

The cocoa used is in these Chocolate Cups is from Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farms that meet comprehensive standards for sustainable farming, protecting soil, waterways and wildlife habitat as well as the rights and welfare of workers, their families and communities. The USDA Organic Seal assures that at least 95% of the ingredients are organically certified.

I’ll be having a number of Newman’s product reviews and mentions through-out the month of July here on Connected2Christ! So be sure to come back and read our thoughts. July is a busy month for us going here and there soaking up every moment of Summer that we can. And  we’ll be bringing along a variety of snacks with us to enjoy and many thanks to Newman’s for providing them.
