When Nell Newman and business partner Peter Meehan started Newman’s Own® Organics: The Second Generation® in 1993, they were sure there was a market for organic snack foods, but they couldn’t have anticipated just how fast the demand for their products would grow. What started with pretzels and grew to include other snack foods has now expanded to many other organic items: coffee, tea, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, organic dried fruit, and pet food.
“Great tasting products that happen to be organic is our slogan,” says Nell. “It really says a lot about us. We’ve seen in recent years that people want to know more about the food they eat, not just how many calories a product contains. It’s becoming more important to them how ingredients are grown and processed on the way to their grocers’ shelf. Once people see how much organic foods have improved since the early days of packaged`health‘ foods, we feel they’ll seek them out.”
When it comes to buying snack foods for our family, Nemwan’s Own Organics is our first choice! Several months ago, I shared our thoughts upon many of their products here on my blog and if you missed that post, you can check it out HERE. This Spring season I was contacted once again by Newman’s and asked if my family and I would like to share our thoughts and spread the news about two new snack products recently added to their many wonderful lines! Nothing could match the enthusiasm from my children when they found at they’d get to share their thoughts upon cookies!
The two new types of cookies we were sent were Spelt Gingersnaps from the Family Recipe Cookies line and Vanilla Newman-O’s from the creme-filled Newman-O cookies line. Other flavors though not recently added that we received from each of the lines I just mentioned were the Peanut Butter Cream and Orange Chocolate Chip (Both Amazing in taste and highly recommended by us!)!
Newman’s Own Organics: Family Recipe Cookies: Ginger Snaps – These cookies are delicious and everyone in my family loves them! There’s definitely a kick in flavor but a good one! I like that Newman’s is offering a different variety of flour these being made using organic spelt flour. The amount of ginger and molasses is just right. They are aren’t overly sweet but perfectly spiced.
The cookies taste home baked which often can’t be said for other bought ready made cookies. The feel of the cookies is dense but not overly, meaning they aren’t chewy but crumble when bitten. Be warned that these will make you pretty thirsty! Not a problem though because most cookies go wonderfully with a cup of tea, coffee, or a large glass of milk.
Newman O’s: Creme Filled Vanilla Cookies – These cookies did not last long once we opened them. Clearly meaning they got eaten up very quickly. Luckily there were just enough to take along with us to the park to enjoy on a bright sunny day. The kids favored the Creme Filled Vanilla Cookies very much. My four year old daughter said she liked how easy it was to separate the two bottoms of the cookies so she could get to the cream first!
The cookies I found to be a bit softer than other comparable cookies, where as they almost melt in your mouth as you are eating them. Not a bad thing by any means. A good thing if you are wanting to share your cookies with infants and toddlers. No lack of flavor or taste. These cookies were fantastic! I even threw a couple in a milkshake I made. I’m a huge fan of vanilla and will definitely be purchasing these in the future!
We were very happy and quite satisfied with all the snacks we were able to try out! We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend any of their products. They are my go to for when I don’t have the time to bake snacks and cookies for my family myself. I’ve always got my pantry stocked with Newman’s products and hopefully you will too!
