My family is proud to admit that we are gamers! My husband and I both grew up playing videos games and continue to still do so with each other and with our son and daughter. When we heard about the Wreck-It Ralph movie coming out from Disney about a arcade video game character and his huge adventure, we knew we had to see it!
From Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Wreck-It Ralph” takes viewers on a hilarious journey. For decades, Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) has played the bad guy in his popular video game. In a bold move, he embarks on an action-packed adventure and sets out to prove to everyone that he is a true hero with a big heart. As he explores exciting new worlds, he teams up with some unlikely new friends including feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman). The film is directed by Emmy®-winner Rich Moore.
Featuring an all-star voice cast including Jack McBrayer as the voice of Fix It Felix, Jr. and Jane Lynch as the voice of Sgt. Calhoun, plus breakthrough bonus features that take viewers even deeper into the world of video games, Disney’s “Wreck-It Ralph” has something for every player. Over an hour of all-new bonus material is featured on the Digital and Blu-ray Combo Pack, including deleted and alternate scenes, the theatrical short “Paperman,” plus much more.
We loved Wreck it Ralph. In fact, right now it’s the favorite in our household, meaning when it’s movie time, this is the film both my kids have constantly been asking to see over and over again! The animation was stunning, the colors amazing, the candy scenes deliciously pleasing to the eyes! The characters in this film were well loved, both new and old. It was a total run down memory lane for me because I grew up playing quite a few of the arcade games shown in the movie. And this also opened the door to talk about some of those games mommy played when she was younger to my kids!
I really liked the story and the message behind it, Don’t judge others, sometimes in life we win and sometimes we lose, and that we are all a small part in something much bigger that ourselves. The movie is rated PG and with that said, know each kid is different and what might be scary to one child could be perfectly fine for another. There’s some potty talk but nothing suggestive or that inappropriate and though the characters are shooting up some bugs in one of the game scenes it wasn’t really disturbing at all in my opinion. There are some intense moments through out the film but my kids weren’t freaked out by it though on the edge of their seats which meant they were really getting into the film.
The short Paperman as a bonus feature on the DVD is wonderful. I loved it, my husband loved it, and because my kids loved it, they’ve been asking us to constantly make them paper airplanes. I can’t really explain it or give it away because I want whomever is reading my review to see it for themselves. The animators and story writers did an excellent job in invoking feeling and expression in this short. Total 5 stars from me for the short and for the Wreck-it Ralph movie.
My Husband’s Thoughts….
I really enjoyed Wreck-It Ralph. As a gamer, I appreciated the references.
The plot was nice and complete. It also stood on it’s own without any explaining things to the audience, such as how correct or incorrect someone was acting. It treated the viewer as someone who could figure it out themselves. I also appreciate that.
Only complaint I have is the standard Disney love story, which started at first sight, but it was more a sub-plot, and had it’s funny moments, so I can live with it.
Gamer or no, this movie is a smashing hit.

Overall we highly recommend this great family film by Disney that is sure to be loved for all time! A movie full of fun, adventure, silliness, and a very strong message.
