Jem and The Holograms {Review}

I was born in the late 80’s so I was a bit to young to be watching Jem and the The Holograms as a child. In fact, I was three years old when Jem was finished airing but thanks to it being released on DVD this month after all this time, I now get to see everything I missed out on!

When I was a child I loved to sing and loved pop music so I’m sure I would have loved Jem growing up. This show is full of adventure, drama, and good old fashion fun! Character traits like forgiveness, being honest, fair, and more make up for some great episodes. I really like that the storyline continues through each episode too. Something you don’t always see in a cartoon these days.

So what’s the series about? The series follows Jerrica Benton, whose discovery of Synergy, a powerful computer companion, and a high-tech pair of star earring  allows her to transform from co-owner of Starlight Music into rock star Jem.  Teaming with her sister and best friends who form The Holograms, Jem sets out to make their musical dreams come true, even as she battles against the ruthless Eric Raymond and his musical protégés.

Yesterday, Shout! Factory released JEM and The Holograms: The Truly Outrageous Complete Series! This is an 11-DVD box set which includes bonus features and tons of archival material. Also set for release on the 11th is the Season One 4-DVD box set, giving you options as far as how far you’ll dive into the outrageousness. The four disc set has a total running time of 600 minutes long. Not rated, it’s safe for all ages. The suggested retail price is $29.93. Though, Amazon has it available for $21.99 right now and eligible for free super saving shipping.

Glitter, Glam, Good Music…What more could you ask for in an oldie but goodie 80’s cartoon?

*BONUS* Download and print these JEM and The Hologram coloring sheets for the kids!
