A little something for myself…

This week I decided since the Autumn season was approaching that I should get started on knitting a few hats for myself. I asked my knitting group if any of them had a favorite pattern and style and received an answer which resulted in the above pictured hat. I was really excited about this hat and then I ran into some confusing new to me concepts in knitting the pattern. The creator of this pattern was very helpful in answering all my questions about each of the steps of which I wasn’t quite sure about. Now for future projects what I wasn’t sure about will come easy and I won’t have to frog my items several times! Oh, it’s so great to learn new things, wouldn’t you agree?

If you are curious to know what yarn I used and how much, I’m pleased to tell you! The yarn I used is Lion Brand Yarn Hometown USA Yarn, in Minneapolis Purple.Bulky yarn such as this works great on the Knifty Knitter or any other larger gauge loom! I used almost an entire skein and honestly I could have did two to four more rows on this hat. I’m on a the petite side so if you try to knit up this hat for yourself I would recommend knitting a few more rows than mentioned in the pattern.  I purchased this particular yarn on sell at Wal*Mart earlier this spring not having any plans for it. It was two dollars a skein and that was just something my yarn addictivness couldn’t not pass on!

And the loom I used is the Knifty Knitter Adult Hat Loom Set in Purple. This is a must have for all those who love loom knitting! It the perfect size for adult hats. Quite frankly I just ordered another one because I feel that it’ll be getting tons of use out of it. Plus, if I am working on a personal project and then someone orders a hat from me, I’ll have a loom free.

My next project is a strap over button brimmed ladies hat!  So stay tuned on how that one turns out because there’s more new to me knitting concepts I’ll have to figure out! I think it’s good to challenge myself to the point  that I was working on knitting this hat when it was well over 90 degrees in my home these last couple of days. Hey, I’ll take free just me time when I can get it to work on projects.
