If you are a fan of Jazz arrangements and music that’s a bit more classical than what you would typically find in the children’s music section, you will love Oran Etkin’s lastest album Wake Up, Clarinet.

Oran Etkin is a woodwind artist that mainly plays modern jazz and world music for adults.  His album Kelenia was awarded Best World Beat Album by the Independent Music Awards, and who was recently featured on the Putumayo Kids “Jazz Playground” CD-introduces young listeners to the clarinet. I have the Putumayo Kids “Jazz Playground” CD  and high recommend it!

Just recently I found out that Oran had released Wake up Clarinet geared solely toward children. This CD is based off the “Timbalooloo” music education program he has created for children.  Throughout this CD you’ll find Oran teaching kids about high notes and low notes, how instruments “talk” to each other and to us, and even a bit of history here and there.  He is joined by a notable band of artists including Jason Marsalis on drums and the deep velvet stylings of jazz vocalist Charnee Wade.

We personally welcome the jazzy instrumental music and this CD is definitely one of our favorites around here. Though calling it just a music CD seems to shoot a little low, it’s a lot more than that.

Oran Etkin has a packed tour schedule, if you’d like to head over to the website for more info. Also, stop by his Facebook fan page if you like what you’re hearing!

You can purchase Oran Etkin’s Wake Up, Clarinet directly from his online store via download (for $9.99), or via Amazon.
