729230: The Shack The Shack

By William Paul Young / Windblown Media

“Mack” Philips took his three children on a family camping trip while his wife visited her sister. Just as they were about to leave the campsite, the two older kids decided to take a last canoe ride before heading home. As their canoe overturned, and Mack went to help them, his back was turned and the unspeakable happened. Mack’s youngest daughter,Missy, was abducted by a known child predator. After a massive search, evidence of Missy showed up at an abandoned cabin. Although they never found her body, everyone knew the worst had happened. For the next four years “a great sadness” fell over Mack and his family, until a note from God showed up in his mailbox. What happens next will move you to a greater understanding of God’s unfailing love for us all.

My Thoughts:

I finished The Shack today and I must tell you that I enjoyed it thoroughly. I knew from the start that there were controversial issues  between Christians about this work of fiction and I understand their concern whole heartily. People must come into reading this book knowing that is a work of fiction and know not to solely base their theological beliefs on it alone.

I quite enjoyed this book and I feel even more compelled to jump into a deeper relationship with God after reading it.  This story answered questions and shed light on some misconceptions that I had in my own life. Through the pages of this book, I found compassion, true brokenness, forgiveness, love, grace, and mercy. What a challenge this is to my own personal walk with God and I am sure it would be for other as well. I encourage everyone to read this inspiring work of fiction. I’m looking forward to discussing this with my husband after he reads it!

A book I recommend reading after The Shack is the book ” Finding God in The Shack” By: Randal Rauser. This book provides helpful information for a better realization of the theological aspects found in The Shack. This book would be a helping stepping stone to the setting up a discussion group or to just enhance your reading of this book.

I don’t want to say much more than that because I don’t want to give the story away. Pick up a copy and see for yourself what you’ve been missing!
