Even though the Ground Hog is predicting six more weeks of Winter, we’ve been encouraged this week to get moving and get out and explore nature thanks to award-winning, internationally acclaimed family music artist Farmer Jason’s latest kids music cd/dvd combo! No doubt in my mind that this collaboration is sure to get kids moving and prompt a lot of excitement in exploring nature a fun humorous way with songs about exploring caves, canoing on the river, taking a hike in the woods, observing animals, and so much more!
Farmer Jason and Buddies Nature Jams has 16 original songs on CD and includes a bonus DVD that features four fun music videos! The booklet that comes with the CD is very colorful and features really colorful eye catching illustrations for every song! Many guest artist sing along with Farmer Jason such as REM’s Mike Mills, Cheap Trick’s Tom Petersson, Iris Dement, Alison Brown, Suzy Bogguss, Brandi Carlile, Terrance Simien, Webb Wilder, Todd Snider, Tommy Ramone and Hank Williams III, and more!
Farmer Jason and Buddies Nature Jams has been a huge hit with my children ages nearly 4 years old and a little over 1. My son loves the song Dison the Bison and whenever it plays he’ll go round and round in circles. And my daughter keeps asking when we’ll be able to go hiking at one of our local parks again. I admit I’m itching to get back out explore nature more myself too. The songs are fun and I really like that before each song plays that a background information discussion is added which is a great education aspect!

Review: Real Steel DVD & BluRay
Film Synopsis: Balancing gritty action and emotional heart, “Real Steel” is an inspiring and visually stunning film that takes audiences on an action-packed journey. Washed-up boxer Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) scrapes by as a small-time robot-fight promoter as he tries to make a comeback. Against all odds he eventually succeeds—at least in the eyes of his son Max (Dakota Goyo). “Real Steel” is spectacular family entertainment that will have everyone cheering again and again.
If you haven’t already seen Real Steel or even if you have, there’s a good chance that you’ll probably want to grab your very own DVD/Blu Ray copy when it releases on the 24th of January! In my opinion, this a great movie that the whole family will enjoy especially for the men and boys in your life.
I’m not ashamed to say that we are a pretty geeky family. We love Dr. Who, Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, almost any sci fi, pirate flicks, and anything pretty much to do with Robots. Real Steel takes the cake for every robot movie we have seen especially since it’s family friendly. Honestly I am sure most people will be skeptical in the sense because all they know is that it’s a movie about robot boxing . I’m here to say it filled with so much more than that although the robots boxing is pretty cool all by itself!
We really liked this movie! My 3 1/2 year old daughter loves robots and has asked to watch this movie several times since we first watched it. Now note that this movie is PG 13 and you have a child that gets frightened easily this could pose an issue. I didn’t think it was over the top violent or scary but to each their own opinion and standards. I would say to maybe pre-screen this or read up on some other reviews to decide for yourself it’s right for the under 13 crowd in your own home.
This movie is full of action packed themes, adventure, and heart felt story line that’s main focus on facing challenges, love, forgiveness, and second chances! Trust me, you don’t often find this wholesome of an action packed movie often. It’s no surprise that this one topped the theater charts for so long!
The DVD has lots of great extras! You’ll find the “Making of Metal Valley” and “Building the Bots”. There’s bloopers and an audio commentary with the director on the DVD disc. The blu-ray disc has even more bonus content including Real Steel Second Screen, deleted and extended scenes, “Countdown to the Fight – The Charlie Kenton Story” and “Sugar Ray Leonard: Cornerman’s Champ” features. Fan of the flick won’t want to miss out on all these great bonuses!
Real Steel is rated PG-13 and has a running time of 127 minutes. It is available on Blu-ray and DVD. Check out the trailer of Real Steel for a preview of the film below.

Holiday Gift Guide 2011: Spy Kids 4 “All the Time in the World” on DVD & Blu-Ray! {review & giveaway}
The action packed franchise is back with the next generation of Spy Kids! Marissa Cortez Wilson (Jessica Alba) has it all: married to a famous spy-hunting television reporter (Joel McHale), with a new baby and intelligent twin step kids, Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard) and Cecil (Mason Cook). When maniacal Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven) disrupts her domestic bliss–threatening to take over the planet–Marissa comes out of retirement as a top secret agent. With Armageddon quickly approaching, Rebecca and Cecil are thrust into action! With a little help from some familiar Spy Kids friends, Carmen (Alexa Vega), Juni (Daryl Sabara), and their faithful dog Argonaut (Ricky Gervais) and some mind-blowing gadgets, they just may be able to save the world!
My review:
After having already seen the first three Spy Kids movies prior Spy Kids 4 “All the Time in the World” I’ll have to say I was very impressed with this film! You’ll be taken on a family friendly adventure full of time traveling and saving the world action.
I loved the story behind this one. It challenges it’s viewers to take time to spend with our family. In our society it seems like we are all tied up in this and that. At the end of our days we are too worn out and end up missing out on those important moments to share with the ones we love. We are taught we can’t go back and change things but a fresh start can happen now.
My 3 1/2 year old daughter was quite taken with the film. She thought it was really cool that kids were getting the chance to save the world. And she kept pointing out the she and her little brother could be like the kids in the film. I wouldn’t put being a spy past her, she’s one smart cookie! She really liked all the neat spy gear too!
If you have a Blu-Ray DVD player, you can also watch the flick in 3D! I can’t share my thoughts on this part since we don’t have a Blu-ray player but I’m sure it’s pretty awesome ! Total run time of the movie is 88 minutes and extra features that are included are cast interviews, deleted scenes, a Spy Kid feature, and more!
I highly recommend the Spy Kids: All the Time in the World DVD. I am sure any kid would love to find this in their stocking or under the tree this Holiday season!
