The Playful Chef {review}

Playful Chef is a company created to encourage healthy fun in the kitchen.  They offer several variations of cooking kits made specifically for children ages three and up.

The kit I was sent to review  included 13 kid-sized FDA grade tools, 8 plastic cookie cutters, 1 recipe booklet, 1 RED polyester tool belt apron.  We love this kit, the recipes are extremely kid friendly and the tools are all the right size! My daughter and I can’t wait to use the cookie cutters to bake up some great sugar cookies in the months ahead!

I love there are places like Playful Chef offering parents a place to look to in making cooking and learning in the kitchen fun for kids. What a truly hands on experience to value for a lifetime for parents and their kids!

Playful Chefs also offers wonderful playful cookbooks, place mats, a French cooking set complete with chef’s hat, and much, much more. Visit www.playfulinc.com to find out more!

Quantum Health Products review and giveaway

I know for a fact that getting Canker sores is no fun at all and what I would have given for a product like Canker Cover to provide a quicker chance to heal and much need pain relief when I came down with my first one last year.

I was set several products to review from Quantum Health from their Oral Health Kit and was happy to see they had a natural health product substitute compared to others out on the market. I haven’t had the chance to test these products out personally, but I wanted to shed the light on them since I’ve really good things about them from other people.

The following products I was sent include:

  • Lip Clear Lysine – Cold sore treatment. Contains lysine and tea tree oil. Ointment goes on clear.
  • Canker Cover –  Oral canker sore patch. Forms a clear gel patch over the canker sore providing pain relief and treatment. Natural mint flavor.
  • OraMoist – Dry mouth treatment. Time-released disc that adheres to the roof of your mouth to increase mouth moisture. Natural fruit flavor. Sugar-free. Alcohol-free.

Quantam Health offers a large variety of 100% natural over the counter health products including drugs, dietary supplements and personal care products such as the Outdoor Bug, Bite & Sting Protection Kit that caught my eye.

Their website is very easy to navigate and you’ll find lots of information in their Library which features various health articles on all sorts of conditions and ways to better care for your body.

Holiday Gift Guide: Medsafe Review and Giveaway

medsafe

MedSafe - Open with bottlesAs a mother of a small child, it’s very important for me to keep anything that can be potentially dangerous from her.My daughter is currently 18 months old and let me tell you, she’s a real handful at times. You’ll often find her dancing on top of the kitchen tables, climbing up the dressers & bookshelves, and darting for the front door anytime it’s open, all of which keeps me on my toes most of the time.

Did I mention my daughter is very smart, she’s figured out door knobs, she knows how to open water bottles caps, and before I know she’ll be able to get into even more things. I really worry about her getting a hold of medication and this is more of a concern for me since she’s been on prescription drugs since she was about 1 week old.  She eagerly awaits her pills each morning and takes them happily. It would scare me to death if she got a hold of her prescription because as it’s part of her daily ritual, she would probably consume a very lethal amount because she treats her pills like candy.

It was a pretty scary realization when I learned that in a a recent report by the CDC, each year in the United States more than 71,000 children age 18 and younger are seen in emergency rooms for unintentional overdoses of prescription and over-the-counter drugs. It also reported that about 1 out of every 180 two-year-olds visits an emergency department for a medication overdose each year. I literally shudder at the thought.

I used to put medications in my bathroom cabinet. Yes, it was high up but the  medications were still not that hard for my daughter to get a hold of if she really wanted to get them. I needed a better solution to my troubles and was given just that when the opportunity to review the Medsafe was given to my family and I.

My Thoughts…

In an effort to help parents keep their meds safely secured and their children out of harm’s way, Michael Rebando, a Long Island locksmith of two decades developed an electronic lock-box called MedSafe. openBox-221x300

This little safe is the perfect solution to keeping potentially dangerous drugs out of reach from my daughter.  It’s so very simple to set up too. How it works is you first decide which medications you’d like to store inside, set your password, and close the door. Four screws are included so if you want to mount this on the wall you can definitely do that too. It’s sleek design makes it look great in any bathroom as well.

Setting the passcode was very simple, and with over 19,500 changeable combinations it wasn’t too hard to come up with a code my husband and I would both remember. And if we ever want to change it again, we can do so quite easily by following the instructions given.

I love the fact that it has a digital lock but my only concern would be to make sure you have an extra set of batteries hanging around. This isn’t a huge issue to me if I am not able to get it open right away but I did notice that the manufacturer recommends an emergency supply of life saving medication be stored in a separate location. Especially if you or your child really needs their medication right away. I’m hoping perhaps they’ll improve on this design and have perhaps some sort of fail safe if it comes to that.

I’m currently storing my prescription drugs as well as some other infant medications and vitamins in my Medsafe. The items I’ve chosen to store are very desirable for my daughter. As you can see from the photos, the safe isn’t very large, it can approximately hold  about 15 prescription bottles, it works well for me but perhaps a larger model will be created in due time to hold taller pill containers.

I love companies that give back so it’s fantastic to know that a portion of each unit sold will support teen prescription drug abuse awareness programs through non-profits such as D.A.R.E.

Though I had just a few notable issues, I’m a big fan of the Medsafe and would highly recommend everyone I know to get one! As my mom would say, better safe than sorry especially with younger children as well as teens.
