DVD Review: Pocoyo – Fun and Dance

Pocoyo is a children’s show about a sweet little boy and his fun animal friends, Elly the elephant, Pato, Loula and Sleepy Bird. The show has short but cute and memorable skits that I guarantee that not only kids but adults too will fall in love with.

My children ages 3 and 1 years old where introduced to Pocoyo in his fun little world on the DVD ” Pocoyo- Fun and Dance a few weeks ago. It’s been a definite hit in our home. This DVD with a running time of about 50 minutes has a total of 7 stories: The Big Sneeze, Drum Roll Please, Umbrella Umbrella, A Mystery Most Puzzling, Double Bubble, Sleepy Bird’s Surprise, and Swept Away.

Each story is around 7-8 minutes long and teaches children important character building lesson such as the importance of sharing, friendship, and much more. I like that the stories are short, simple and straight to the point. The voice over narrative by Stephen Fry is great. As Pocoyo and his friends are interacting, the narrative voice over asks questions and explains how the characters feel, what they may want, and what they are doing. This is key and keeps children engaged as to what exactly may be happening.

I would highly recommend exploring the world of Pocoyo with your child. This show is short, sweet, and makes learning fun. It’s laid back feel is a desirable factor for parents that want something that’s not annoying or overly loud as we know that some shows geared toward children can often be.

DVD Review: VeggieTales: Robin Good and his Not-So-Merry Men

A long time ago, in the faraway town of Bethlingham, roved a band of merry men, led by the fearless Robin Good. Their mission: to help people by fundraising from the rich and giving to the poor! But when a greedy Prince starts stealing the townspeople’s hams, donations are down and Robin’s friends take off and decide to give robbing from the rich a try. Feeling rejected, Robin thinks things can’t get any worse, until he finds out that the ham-hoarding Prince has also captured his friends. Can Robin overcome his own hurt, rescue his friends and restore the townspeople’s hope? Find out in this fun Veggie story where kids learn that there’s no hurt too big for God!

-Our Thoughts-

We completely love Robin Good and His Not-So-Merry Men. As a mother of two young children, I am always looking for great ways to share the love of God and to teach children important life character traits & values.

In this latest installment, the Veggie Tale characters share not one but two stories that demonstrate to children how to deal with their feelings if they are hurt or disappointed. I enjoyed the stories myself and quite liked that in the bonus features section, there is a Guide to Handling Hurt which gives suggestions, Biblical scripture verses, and opens the doors to discussing what may be going on in their life or if they see a friend that may be hurting.

As with all Veggie Tale movies, there’s lots of humor, the characters can be silly but also serious when called for. There’s many songs that are sung through out some super silly and others very meaningful. My daughter age 3 1/2 and son age 14 months enjoyed watching both the features and all the bonus content such as spotlighting children and their group leader doing what they could to raise water to build a well for children that didn’t have clean water.

Robin Good and His Not-So-Merry Men is about 50 minutes long. There are English and Spanish speaking options as well as wide or full screen for viewing. A great story with a Biblical message. This DVD does and excellent job in making clear that “There’s no hurt too big for God”. And really, “What more could you ask for?

What a perfect addition to add to an Easter Basket in a few weeks! You can buy Robin Good at Amazon.com  for $10.49 currently!

DVD Review: Pound Puppies: Homeward Pound

When I was a child, I used to watch the classic Pound Puppy Cartoons weekly! I had a few soft plush pound puppy toys of my very own and almost never missed an episode if I could’ve helped it. I was pretty excited to find out that yet again, one of my favorite 80′s cartoons got a re-do and is now available for our current generation in a great new style!

Thanks to Shout FactoryPound Puppies: Homeward Pound is out now on DVD! This DVD offers five fun filled episodes which include “Homeward Pound”, “My Fair Rebound”, “Quintuplets”, “K-9 Kid”, and “Zoltron”. Total DVD running time is two hours and the DVD even has a special feature that spotlights how to draw one of the characters!

My daughter enjoyed Pound Puppies: Homeward Pound and was quite taken with watching the fun loving dogs find safe loving homes for all the lonely puppies they encountered. There are likable characters with lots of different personalities and cute names such as Lucky, Niblet, Cookie, Squirt, Strudel, and Mr. Nut Nut. I like that throughout each episode, important lessons are learned like working together to get the job done!

I couldn’t help but feel that this collection would be best suited for both boys and girls ages three to eight years old, especially animal lovers! And if you are interested, you can pick up your own copy of Pound Puppies: Homeward Pound on Amazon.com for $11.99!
