I’d like to thank Janet from Loving Heart Designs for guest reviewing this DVD set on my blog.

Her are her thoughts…

My family and  I have always been fans of Scholastic. We have been homeschooling ever since 1989 and we have included many products from Scholastic in our curriculum and homeschool library. Now, we can enjoy the read-along series by Scholatic Storybook Treasures.

My four-year-old enjoys watching and listening to "The Wheels on the Bus" DVD's and CD. Included in this kit is a 34 page activity book with mazes, matching, dot-to-dots and more. This is a wonderful product to include over the summer vacation. Travel can be boring for the little ones and the Sing-Along Travel Kit will make long or short trips more fun. The whole family can get in on the fun with the fun songs like "The Wheels on the Bus", "Dem Bones", "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" and many other fantastic songs.

This past month we went to the mountains and rented a home on the lake. I would have loved to have the travel kit for the more quieter moments on our vacation, especially when it rained.

Finn on The Fly {dvd review}

Movie description:

“The kids’ classic THE SHAGGY DOG gets an inspired reverse treatment in this tale of a border collie that gets a taste of the two-legged lifestyle. Not long after shy, 13-year-old Ben (Matthew Knight) moves to a new city and befriends a particularly intelligent dog named Finn, the lovable pooch finds himself in the basement of resident mad scientist Dr. Madeline Madsen (Ana Gasteyer). Finn laps up a strange potion and poof–he emerges in the body of a sprightly young man (comedian Ryan Belleville), one who chases squirrels and drinks from the toilet! The whole family will enjoy this fun and original canine adventure.”

My Thoughts…

Finn on The Fly is   a movie aimed toward kids ages eight and up that was created to potray a message of kindness and teamwork. I expected it to be like something you’d catch on during a Saturday afternoon and I was clearly right. This movie is silly from the get go, full of lots of jokes and crazy situations. Parents be warned that there are some jokes/situations like a cavity search and dog fart jokes of which are slightly inappropriate for children, so if you want to screen this movie ahead of time, feel free.

I did feel like the movie was a little bit all over the place at times. It wasn’t one of my favorites though maybe if I was a tween boy, I’d think a little differently. I give this movie 2 1/2 stars out of 5.

Help Save Our Planet on Earth Day’s 40th Anniversary

I’m excited about Scholastic Storybook Treasures newest DVD called He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands … And More Stories to Celebrate the Environment! Released just in time for Earth Day, this DVD has seven great stories in teaching children and parents alike how to be more aware  in caring for the earth around them.

A few of our favorites include He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands which is actually a song not a story. The music is delightful and the illustrations are story book like.  My daughter whom will be two years old next month loves this song as I did and still do. Another one of the stories my daughter really likes on this DVD is the A Boy, a Dog, and a Frog.

I adore all Scholastic Storybook Treasures dvd’s as they include read-along features which is great for children learning to follow along in early reading. I like personally that these stories don’t rock kids out and are very subtle but interesting. Also included in the DVD booklet are some great hints and tips for parents and kids to help save the environment.

I know I’ll be using this DVD in my  home-school curriculum in the future as my daughter gets older.  I highly recommend this DVD not just during Earth Week but for any day of the year.
