I'm a 27 year old stay-at-home mom from Oregon. I have two wonderful children ages 3 and 1 years old. I have been married for five years to my wonderful husband whom I met online!

I enjoy sharing my faith in God, designing graphics, blogging, knitting photography, getting lost in a book, crafting, teaching my children at home, and more.

Crafting Through The Ages With My Family

Crafting Through The Ages With My Family

One of the best ways to get connected with your children is to share the gift of crafts with them. I can remember many days spent with the bar stools pulled up to the kitchen island to spend a priceless couple of hours making a holiday craft with the kids.

College credits in creative design online are available for those of you who love crafting as well.

Make no mistake about it – things got messy and confused, but these are the memories that we keep for a lifetime and are well worth the price of a momentous clean up. We had some great times creating crafts for any holiday season that was rolling around.

Halloween

It was like the measurement of time – which child would be willing to dip their hands into the pumpkin and pull out the yucky guts inside. The young ones used a spoon and made sure that their hands didn’t come into contact with the sides of the pumpkin, while the older ones put every effort into pulling out handfuls of guck at a time and taunting the younger ones with it. By the end of the pumpkin carving everyone was covered with pumpkin juice and orange strings stuck to their clothing. The island, kitchen floor and bar stools needed a scrubbing and we didn’t care. The mess just added to the memory of it all.

Christmas

This was a more serene get together with the children because of the religious aspect of it all and the focused effort put into the crafts that would be made as gifts. Every child wanted these crafts to turn out perfectly and there were often tears shed when things went wrong. Me and the older kids would help the younger ones to help get everything “perfect”. At times younger ones would also help the older children. It was really a spirited affair attached to a higher purpose; the purpose of giving at this sacred time of year.

Valentine’s Day

This was an extra special time to spend with the kids getting valentines ready. It was funny to see the changes through the ages with this holiday as well. The young kids were anxious to make a Valentine for every other child in the class while the older ones only made valentines for a very select few, and often the names were kept a secret from the rest of us.

There was also a time when the kids hit a certain age and just helped the others make valentines. They didn’t take part in the activities to make their own. They were too old to hand out Valentines to their classmates and not yet old enough to want to selectively give a card to a “secret Valentine”.

Easter

This was quite a somber time for us all. We didn’t climb on the bar stools and make crafts at the island at this time. We all sat down at the dining room table and designed Easter cards to send to the rest of the family. We decided not to take part in the bunny and egg crafts and used this time instead to get in touch with loved ones. While the Easter Bunny did arrive with chocolate and special treats, we tried to keep the spirit of the time at its right tone to help the children understand the religious aspects of it.

Throughout the years we explored many different types of crafts and I must say that we all grew together as a family because of this time spent together. There is no better way to bond together as a unit than by getting together as a collaborative creative spirit.
