Book Review:Religion Saves: And Nine Other Misconceptions by: Mark Driscoll

506161: Religion Saves: And Nine Other Misconceptions Religion Saves: And Nine Other Misconceptions

By Mark Driscoll / Crossway Books & Bibles

Inspired by 1 Corinthians, in which Paul answers a series of questions posed by the people in the Corinthian church, Pastor Mark Driscoll set out to determine the most controversial questions among visitors to the Mars Hill Church website. In the end, 893 questions were asked and 343,203 votes were cast. The top nine questions: birth control, humor, predestination, grace, sexual sin, faith and works, dating, the emerging church, and the regulative principle are now each answered in a chapter of Religion Saves.

My Thoughts:

First, I’d like to state that this book is not for the faint of heart. I think to properly receive when reading this book, you have to come into it with an open mind and with that being said, let me enlighten you with my own thoughts on this read.

Author and Pastor Mark Driscoll has written this book in the means to shed light on questions that may seem hard to answer, questions certain people tend to draw the line  on and never bring up again. As being a believer myself, seeking to be scriptural correct and wanting to have Bible based theological answers is important, when those hard question do come up. I enjoyed reading reading Driscoll’s bold, firm and very straightforward views. I’m sure most believers would agree that sexual sin, and the other issue brought up in this book shouldn’t be patted down and should be hit head on.

Though I don’t necessarily agree with all that this Pastor believes and brings forward, I would still recommend this book to those that would like to delve deeper into the issues he covers.

  • I have not read this book but Driscoll is definitely not for the faint of heart. He does not sugar coat it and his approach is not about “hugs and muffins” as he has put it. If you want straight talk, he’s the guy! He backs up all that he says with scripture.

  • My husband read this book as my guest reviewer and he raves about it. He may not agree with everything Driscoll talked about in this book but he applauds him for standing up and making a difference. Thumbs up! Great review c2c. :)
